I'm getting ready to paint my sons Luv and figure as long as I'm going to actually plumb my air compressor and replace my ancient Air dryer I might as well do it RIGHT. I'm leaning on either using Copper pipe or the quick snap together style I saw on Horsepower TV or Trucks...I forget which one it was. Anyway the snap together system is by EASTWOOD. If you google it, it pops right up. Has anyone out here plumbed their Air compressor with a sytem like this? It looks alot easier than sweating copper pipes but since I haven't used it I don't know if it's worth the extra money. Any feedback would be appreciated.

harbor freight has a knock off of eastwoods kit.

i havent used it, but a few friends have been pleased with it since it was cheaper than eastwood and does the same thing.

I just looked at the system on Harborfreight. It looks alot like the Eastwood syste. I just might give it a try.

While the price is right, some of the Harbor Freight stuff is a little on the junky side. There are things I don't use enough to justify buying quality, that their stuff meets my occasional needs. I am not sure I would want to depend on piping from them to contain expensive Freon.

I'm not plumbing Freon...just my air compressor. I looked at the system again on Harbor Freight and from what I can find it isn't the size I wanted. I'm looking for 1 inch to 1 1/4 inch plumbing system. I'm planning to get it done this week so I guess I have to makeup my mind fairly quickly. I appreciate the comments guys, keep them coming.

I gotta get my son's LUV painted, getting anxious to get it done.

I guess I need to read threads more carefully, sorry. You are upgrading your shop so you can paint. Have you considered black iron? It is cheap and easy to work with if you avoid cutting and threading. Most places that sell pipe will also cut and thread it. Also, you can buy many pre cut and threaded lengths. My favorite to work with is PVC, but it is a no no for compressed air.

If the Harbor Freight things are a knock off of the Shark Bite fittings but cheaper, they are great to work with.

Do you really need inch or better pipe? Half inch pipe should run most spray guns unless you have a really long run.

I thought about black pipe but from what I have been told Copper dissipates heat better....cools air faster....reducing the amount of moisture that has to be removed from air at the dryer. As I remember, the shop that I painted in back in the 80's was also plumbed with copper and spaced out from the wall with chunks of 2x4. The air dryer I bought calls for 3/4 inch minnimum plumbing with maximum at 1 1/4 inch. 1 inch was optimum. I could avoid all this and just use the paint shop at the Malmstrom Air Force Base Auto Hobby shop (6 miles away) but I have three vehicles to paint eventually plus this gives me the reason to plumb my shop and get it set up the way I want it. My son works at a farm and ranch store and gets a 20% discount so I'm leaning towards copper now since they have a huge supply of it. It's his truck we're painting first so I might as well use and abuse his discount. I was hoping to get it done this weekend but spent alot of time working on my oldest sons car so now the plan is to get it done this week for sure.

On a separate note, this is the first vehicle I've painted since the late 90's or so, somewhere in that era anyway. Products have changed alot. I'm looking forward to getting this done, the prep work is about 90% complete and I'm anxious to see if I still have the touch. Will be posting before and after pics soon.....unless it's a disaster.

Be sure to ground your copper pipe. Also remember their will be some Galvanic corrosion with 2 different metals in the same system where they touch. I am not sure how stainless steel works with that. The grounding is the most important thing. I have seen a lot of black pipe systems. Remember that volume is a factor(pipe size). The longer the run pipe size may have to start out larger. You are most likely not have a system that long. Have a slight raise on your pipe from the compressor to your dryer. Have at least one t with a drain in it to be able to drain your line. You may want to drain your line every time you turn your compressor off.

I have used PVC for plumbing too.... Yes there are 600 PSI version, so pressure is not a problem.

I have trouble soldering copper under the house with only 12" to work in.
