Well I've been busy over the winter and I'm in the final stages of fitting the new motor in the truck. Its a 9.3 liter (565 ci) BBC, 10:1, hydraulic roller, pump gas motor that dynoed in at 732 hp 719TQ at 6100rpm. It fits and looks the same as the old 461. It has less compression and cam than the old one, so it should be better for the street.

My MSD box crapped out on Monday just after I got it running, but before I got the seats back in it sooooooo instead of taking it for a spin I got about another week of down time waiting for warrenty work.

I only have a few new pics and the porn blocker at work won't let me upload them so here's some old threads on the truck.

Its a tight fit no doubt. The headers are the real challange. 8 individual tube and you have to install them in a specfic sequence. When I went from stock heads to aftermarket heads (which raise the exaust port a 1/2 inch) I had to start all over and rebend them for a total of 4 hours of rework.

It's registered and insured and does get driven on the street but its not my everyday driver though, its kinda crapped inside and the radiator has a hard time keeping up so its mostly short trips that are less than ten miles.........yes it has a passanger seat and I do give rides.

Well, I got tied of waiting for the MSD box to arrive so I wired up the HEI and took it for a spin down the road today.....and I mean spin. I don't think traction will be a big issue at the track but on the county road at the end of my driveway traction was an problem. The converter stalls to 5500rpm as soon as I hit the gas and its making 710 hp at 5500 rpm so the tires just spin in 1st and 2nd if I floor it. It does have some bite in 3rd gear, and if you're easy on the pedal it actually does drive OK and will move alone at 55mph at 2500 rpm, you just have to make sure you're in third before you floor it.

Is it inspected? DOT around here would eat that thing for lunch....

All the sheetmetal, doors hood box ect are orginal. MN doesn't do inspections or emmisions testing. It's registers as a collector (20 years or older) so it only need to meet basic requirement. Horn, turn signals, mufflers ect. Same as a street rod.

Dispite some torque converter issues, blown shock, and bad air the truck still made a few 9.96 1/4 mile passes at 131mph at BIR's show-n-go. I was hoping for a little more but still not too bad for a street legal pump gas truck. It got more it's fair share of attention.

Nice. That is about where my truck runs. If I get up that way I will get ahold of you and get a ride!!! Got relatives up that way. Looks like the truck hooks good.

60 ft is in the 1.40 range. I launch it at 4500 rpm and it ramps up to 6100 instantly. It bunny hops a little until I pull second (which doesn't take long with a TH350) The motor is driving through the converter as peak torque is at 4800 rpm and the converter stalls at 6100. I'll have to pull the converter and send it in to have it tightened up.

That is pretty good. On a good day my truck 60' are low to mid 1.30s. Once I got a new convertor setup for my truck and a new carb it made all the difference in the world. Truck runs awesome and consistant. But not my carb is on a friend's super comp dragster and is working good from him.
