this is my first attempt with bike carbs... most places recommend the R1 carbs so that what i started with... when i first herd about bike cars i wanted to use the smooth bore but they are allot more $$$... The EDIS kits are just about one size fits all as long as it is 4, 6, 8 cylinder specific... the electronics i will be using is to adjust the timing or curve of the timing , so it is allot easier then if i tried to run fuel injected R1 carbs ... that may be the next one i try.... the electronics for the timing is about $160 but for fuel and timing they run about $450... i dont have all the parts yet as i am still trying to get the kit together and working before i sell them to make sure all works well and have a good base map to down load to a laptop for the EDIS and electronics... not sure if they will bolt up... the intake will be made for 40mm carbs but the spacing may be off and you would have to separate the carbs to fit the intake... all this info i have found on the net just by looking and reading about bike carbs...i wanted to try this a couple years ago but a guy in Sutherland that does this to British cars said it wouldn't work and not to try it on my truck as it would be way to hard to do... so i listened to him... but over the last few years i keep seeing things pop up and did more research... i think the guy was just trying to keep me away and all info to himself... here is a good place to start...
http://www.totalvauxhall.co.uk/resource ... h60697.pdfI think your on to something here.
Bikes get as big as 1400 stock now. In the past it took a big block kit, but the Mikuni's didn't have trouble feeding those motors at 10,000 rpm.
If I'm not mistaken a LUV is 1800 so it would not be over carbed at all. My experience with motorcycle carbs is that they are very tunable from idle to mid throttle to WOT so making them work would be just a matter of time and tuning.
Most of the time I hear it does not work means the person your talking to has not been able to make them work or even try to make them work or like you said, he was trying to steer you in the wrong direction.
IMO-Once you make the mainfold, getting other carbs to fit will be just cutting and fitting since motorcycle carbs run those rubber mainfold seals. The hardest part seem the mainfold. So when you get one done, I'm interested in buying one, thanks.
BTW where do you get the EDIS kits? For @ $160 I think I start there.
