So here's the deal, Picked up a '77 luv, and after a few minor things like hoses, rust in the carb, and a new fuel system sans tank, the thing is runnin like a little champ. Minor oil leak Rear main seal, and oil pan.
Here is my quandary, Can this little guy, packed full of t-shirts, and a cot for me to sleep on under my canopy, while pulling a little trailer maybe (like the small uhaul size)... Make it from Seattle, Washington to New York? Or do you all think I should scrap the trailer idea? Want to attend a festival in NY and think my luv would be great.
Anyone else have cross country luv stories? I'd love to hear them!
^_^

my son has gone from Salem to El Paso in his about 5 times.... the first trip was a disaster as it had not been run much in about 2 years, just every now and then... any way long story short... viewtopic.php?f=5&t=7795&hilit=son this was the second part didnt find the first part...
anyway take belts, alternator ,fuel pump, plugs some wire and clips... gas , water , oil, regulator... not to sound bad but its an old car and better to be prepared then stuck... my son made many more trip with extra parts and never need them but was allays glad he had them...

Post plenty of pics of adventure. Take some spare parts like Raditor hose, elec. fuel pump, belts and extra water. I would join AAA autoclub just in case you need road assitance and can't fix it yourself.

Bought my Luv in Orange California, flew there and drove it home to Mississippi. Only issue I had was the bolts in the rear u joint worked loose and I had to tighten them. Rest of the trip went smooth.

If youve got extra parts and tools youll probably never need them, but youll feel like a king if you have them and do need them. My truck and a trailer and the rocky mountains ???? I dont know. God-speed and good luck!!! My story drove my truck from Sturgis to Illinois and back in 2007 no issues.

i just recently drove my 80 2wd to california to make one good 79 4wd. ran like a champ, but keep in mind that i was driving at 55mph the whole trip.

if its just you, i wouldnt pull a trailer.just take the cot and some blankets and you will be quite comfortable.

but yeah, take some basic tools and some spare parts in a milk crate. you will be so happy you did if anything does go wrong'
