well ive come to the conclusion i really really like these little trucks. my 77 came about through trades and i eventually ended up buying it from a friend. and even then i had no idea what i was really buying. other than a truck next to nobody around town knew what it was.

so to keep my very possibly long and pointless post short ... i am going to look for a luv to slowly restore and drive daily. i think the only thing i would change is a 5 speed trans just for better mileage. otherwise i would keep it original or only replace with original parts.

there is no REAL point to this other than if you know of any NON project luvs that are running and in "fair" shape please let me know. ill be checking the auction boards where people post links of luvs they see for sale, but if there is stuff you see and dont post, let me know.

and once i get one. ill be selling my focus. its nothing special but it is a great running little car and gets good mileage. so if you are looking for a daily car or a car for a new driver let me know. im not making a for sale post yet but if you have ANY interest at all ... just say something

its shorter than i thought it would be

Kyle

I love my '81 daily driver. They are good little rigs but with a few updates can be alot more reliable.

I get 29 MPH with mine on the highway with the stock 4 speed so I'm probably gonna stick with it instead of going to a 5 speed. Electronic ignition, weber carb (which I haven't done yet) one wire alternator (with some additional wiring for the fuel pump)...there's just a few.

My luv seems to get anywhere from 26-31 depending on how fast I want to go 55mph it does fine, going 65 (topped out in my truck) it sucks the gas.. I have a Weber Carb and It runs a little rich. mine also smokes a little... ok alot I put from 44K in it and it made it worse. I think the top end needs a rebuild lol.

Ive driven my luv to work every day since I bought it in march 06 have averaged about 21 mpg and about a fill up a month. Two miles to work, two miles home. City driving. My first thought on a non project LUV was panic 989.

is that with the stock 4 speed?

ive been giving it a lot of random thought lately. im thinking if its gonna be my daily and i wont be lowering, lifting, aftermarket wheels and tires .. just leaving it stock and fixing whats broke and in due time restoring it .. i think i may for for a 4x4. just to have it i guess. but who knows what kinda deal ill find

My 4X4 80 LUV gets 25+ mpg and the first mod was and should always be is an 84 up electronic dist. as it will run like you put a new motor in.

Also on mine it is stock with the stock carb, air cleaner and a 2 1/4" exhaust meaning it is set up for low mid range driving and is dead on reliable.

Oh and now i have a 5spd. in it and the milage cruising is better but i haven't measured it yet but i can tell you that at 65mph it don't sound like the motor going to fly apart.
