 Post subject: roll bar question
PostPosted: Thu Jul 17, 2003 9:20 am
I'm about to start on my 8 pt. roll bar in my LUV. I would like to hear from anyone who has done this . I have the typical minor rust in the front floor board area of the truck and I am wondering about the door bars that will end up in that area. Technically these will go through the floor and be joined up with the frame, right? My thought is that then I can cut out the metal and rivet in some aluminum around the bar. Is this the way that most do the installation? :?:

you actually have to build out riggers coming off the frame to weld the door bars to. if you put it dirrectly on the frame you wouldn`t have any room for your feet. even with it close to the kick panel it makes it alot more cramped. i would recommend a door bar kit it will make life easier to get in and out.if you plan on having passengers you might consider 1 for the passenger side. as far as the floor you might want to check on the rules i know they allow for some modifications to the floor. i think it goes by square footage. do a search on the nhra web site you should be able to find it there.

Racelife, I understand what your saying. I assume this is true for any full frame vehicle. What I have is just a basic 8pt kit. I've talked to a few people and they say the same thing. I won't actually be the one doing the installation anyway, I will be more the helper. You know, the one that goes and gets the beer! :P

someone here said the tech guy let them race there`s with it welded to the plates and the plates welded to the floor.i asked the tech guy here he said put it to the frame with the out riggers or on the frame or you won`t play on there track. they are pretty strict on some things were i go. but if you have questions about just check out nhra`s site or call your local track and ask them.
