Hey Guys

I finally picked up my new toy on the weekend, Its a '73 with a tray back. It has a diff centre out of a shuttle and a five speend int so it drives real nice on the highway. it also has a 3inch chop on the steering column so its a little more roomy on the bench seat.

I picked it up from ballarat and drove 1200km home, and it didnt miss a beat, it has a little rust, but runs like a dream!

Now i have to find a styleside for it and start making plans for the next part of the build!

I got plenty of spares with it too... a set of doors (minimal rust), a set of guards (no rust), 2 bonnets (one clean, one surface rust), and heaps of spare instruments/ switches etc.

The only picture i have of it is from the advertisement.

Thanks for the comments guys,

I paid a fair bit for it, but i think i got my moneys worth.

All up it cost me about $4500. thats including a night on the drink in sydney, flight to melbourne, bus to ballarat, luv + parts and then fuel and roadhouse food for 1200 kms. I think its alot for an old luv that im only gonna cut up anyway, but my wife thinks i got my moneys worth so...

the guy i bought it of is an old truckie, so it had about a thousand clearance lights all over it, and it has truckie style striping all over it as well. now i just need a tub!

plans now involve coilovers, disc brakes, rack and pinion, fourlink, nine inch and i wanna build a tough as nails 327 for it.

More pics soon.

I got busy today... i removed the pinstriping, painted wheels black to highlight baby moons a little better, and fitted a new bonnet release lever and cable.

tomorrow im pulling the head off for a bit of a check up, make sure its not going to die on me any time soon...

more pictures as promised:

The wheels do look better but I liked the pin striping as well. Oh well, if we were all the same it would be boring...:)

Nice ride!

well i had the head off, and everything is looking pretty dandy! i also checked out the brakes and pressure tested cooling system.
brakes and cooling system are both 2 thumbs up! all 4 cylinders are a little down on compression, but other than that, all is well. the valves looked okay and the bores arent too bad so it should do me well for a year or so while scheme up something else for it.

now i just need to do some rust repairs, fit a better stereo and find a tub and stage one is complete!

thanks for the feedback guys, most people that saw it with stripes agreed that they should have stayed, but not me.

A 73 with a 5 speed :? Sounds like it has the newer crossflow engine fitted (good score). Any idea what the diff ratio is? Thats a sweet looking tray, i have a 81 rodeo/pup that would look great on :P

Yeah it has a crossflow G161 in it. I dont know where the 5 speed came from, but its got a cable clutch. I need to get more info on it because the output shaft seal on it leaks a little and i want to replace it.

If i can find a tub for the right price, you can have the tray complete with gates and tarp if you like. Hell I'll even throw in the taillights if you want them...

Also today i started cleaning and testing all my spare instruments and switches, so far they are all useable!
I'm going to send a set off soon to get refaced and recalibrated so they'll be ready for my new dash!

Thanks for all the comments guys, keeping me keen!

The G161 and 5 speed would have come out of a Holden/Isuzu Gemini, all T series geminis used the same 5speed. Early Holden Rodeo's and Jackaroos used the same G161 and 5speed also. Does it look as tho thers been new engine mounts welded to the chasis? :?:
