I took the head from my builder into the shop to have him do a valve job. He let me put the head on a nice big workbench in an air conditioned room and let me use the pneumatic stuff to take it apart at no charge. Have you guys ever used the pneumatic valve spring compressors? Damn, they're awesome! 20 miniutes and I had the head disassembled and ready for the hot tank.

I just wanted to share. Now I feel special. 8O LOL

Yup. I used to be a machinest at napa. Built engines, rebuilt heads, (valve jobs, replacing seats and guides, grinding valves) and rebuilt starters and alternators. I really miss that job. Plus the discount on hard to find parts was nice

dont put your aluminum head in a hot tank, it will eat it away. try a cold tank of carb cleaner or the like. Bryan

when i was a machinist i used them on my bosses sprint car heads 800#s pressure on the seat 1300 at 750 lift. it was pretty nerve racking watching the jaws and the body of the compressor flex. i had one of the jaw adjustment bolts brake the spring flew across the shop and went through the dry wall. it was pretty scary. 8O

That sounds cool. It reminds me of the time I pulled the coil spring off of a strut from my Subaru in the driveway with no spring compressor. The spring shot up and came down inches from my neighbor's new Tacoma just as he was walking out to get in it! 8O   That shit was funny! Anyway, the guy at the shop knows what he is doing, so I trust him. There are lots of pretty Aluminum heads laying around there.

See if he will put it in the shaker for a few hours. If he has one, it is a big tub full of steel widgets and solvent. I used to polish all kinds of aluminum for people when I worked at napa. A nice polished head would be very cool and easy to clean.
