I am starting to redo the worn interior of my 80 4x4 daily driver to a mikado style. I put 100+ miles a day on it and is pushing 400,000 miles, and its starting to show. :( This is also an experiment to see if I can post pictures correct. I'll update as I progress.... I am replacing seat with a used Toyata pick-up seat, and fixing dash with a coverlay...And adding Mikado carpet, and door panels.[iImagemg][/img][img][/img][img][/img]

This to is a Mikado conversion on a 80 4X4 the dash was in a different truck with the cap already on it( thats the only reason i could get it)and a lesson learned ,who ever did it glued it down with clear silicone and its on there to stay ,it was done well. The windshield came out of the same truck.
The interior was a 79 4X4 Mikado it is a piece of cake to do.

That looks very good. I like the red Mikado the best, but will use the brown Mikado set up I pulled out of a 79 2 wheel drive 10 years ago. Today I stripped old interior, cleaned, repainted floor where I replaced passenger floor board in 1993. I also installed the carpet, seat and door panels. Somebody had 4 inch speaker holes cut higher than normal. But I hope to cover these with new 6 inch speakers. I payed 300 bucks in 1993 for this truck. It was sitting on a vacant lot downtown Portland Ore. There were bums that had been sleeping in it! But it did come with a spare transfer case and decent wheels and tires. The doors were kicked in and hood and windshield were smashed from vandalism. But other than that it was complete.

Very nice, is the carpet aftermarket? I'd glady recarpet mine if I could find something that looked that nice.

No the carpet is a used 79 mikado factory one which I steam cleaned 28 years of dirt out. I had to cut 4x4 shifter hole as it was out of a 2 wheel drive. Fixing dashboard is next......

Kevin, what is that seat from?
How well did it go in?
Did it fit the existing holes?

Your int. looks real nice by the way.

Kevin,

WOW ! That carpet and seat looks great ! I have been worring about where i can get new carpet for my 80 2x4. If mine cleans up that nice i would be happy. I have perfect door panels but the seat is going to need some work. I do have a NOS dash still in the box, so i have that problem covered.

Ike

Rondog, I believe the seat is from a Toyota pickup. I got it from a friend about 10 years ago. He had his Toyota pickup stolen in Seattle and when he got it back they had stolen the original seat and put this one in its place... go figure....I'm not a Toyota man but I would guess late 80's or early 90's? It fit in great, 1 inch to spare each side from cab wall. I had to redrill holes in floor because adjuster layout was different. But it adjusts back and forth very nicely, and the rubber bumpers behind the backrests actually line up with the stock Luv ones mounted on the cab backwall. It was almost like it was made for a Luv
Ike, I use Tuff Stuf upolstery cleaner that foams up real good, and then scrub carpet with brush. Then steam clean it with 1000psi hot water washer. The soap and dirt lift out real well. My red Mikado carpet in my other truck was so grease stained I almost threw it out, but it cleaned up very good. I save the carpet fibers from brushing and use them to fill in any cigerette burns if needed, by glueing them back down. Your nos dash is like gold!!!

Finally got dash cover in. Lots of clean up and inserting stock Luv grille to look like original.... My cover came from a wrecking yard and had couple of cracks but can't see when installed. Also repainted it... Stereo next.ImageImage

I did one of mine like that too. My cap and grill both fit about the same as yours. Then I had a carpet cover I put on top of all of it.
Yours looks good.

Thanks guys, It's amazing what a difference that cap made. I was so used to the cracks. I still have a couple small defects in lower dash by glove box, but nothing to get to excited about....
