so like the title says, it didnt work.

it almost worked though. like itll start and run for half a second, but wont stay running.

im using the electronic parts from the 81 parts truck i bought a while back. im using the coil, ignitor, and mag trigger dist from that truck.

when i went to hook it up, i tried doin it like the article on here says to, but none of the wire colors on my stuff and the article match. so i kinda just went off by my own to get it to work.

so now, here is where i ask for help!

how do i get it to run? i mean i could get it to start, but not run. whats up with that?

heres some pics of what im workin with...

now heres how i had it hooked up. the large block wire is a ground, so it got grounded to the fender. then the light yellow wire was hooked up to the black w/ red stripe wire that was originally on the dist. then the pigtail to the dist was hooked up. with it like this there was nothin.

then i tried hookin up the stock coil + and - to the coil, and it would run for a second and then die.

so what do i do? are the stock + and - coil wires supposed to be used?

thanks

I haven't put one of these in (I have the self contained unit), but here's what it looks like to me....

The plus & minus wires from the coil to the ignition module are amplified and then output through the pigtail to the dizzy. So, in order to make the amp work you'd need to provide power to it, just like the amp for your car stereo. Output won't get amplified without power, and the signal may actually be attenuated in the device that's intended to boost it. My bet is that the yellow wire goes to your ignition +12V. The ground looks right. The + side of the coil gets power when the key comes on, so that's the first + source I'd consider.

The old distributor black/red-stripe is the wire to the points right? On the outside of the old distributor body? With what I see here, you can probably just cover it with tape. If you ohm it out, you should find that it goes to the - side of the coil. This package looks to have replaced the need for that wire by having both the + and - in the pigtail.

Please don't hook anything up just on my advice! Do some more checking with other folks, too. I'll go look over the FAQ here on this upgrade...

When it works, you'll be happy you did it :)

I did not see it mentioned, but you should have a black wire/yellow stripe(from the harness) hooked to + side of coil. And I have a slightly different setup with the Pertronix module, but on mine the black wire/red stripe is not connected to anything.
