Well, I have come to dislike east Texas. Within the next week, I am going to be moving me and my LUV up to Roseburg Oregon. Looks like it will take about $800 for the gas, hopefully prices wont go up too much higher. If anyone knows some GOOD shortcuts or "must stop" gas stations along the long open roads, I will be glad to listen to suggestions. Thanks for any helpful hint.

I am gonna leave on Tuesday most likely, I have lost all respect for my boss, so I told him to .... off. I think I will go up through Nevada, I'd rather go through Vegas than LA. Just found out that gas is upwards of $3.50 in Oregon, so it would be $4 in Cali. If anyone wants my stock door hinges, if you are along the way, lemme know and I will drop them off (also have latch rod, the one from inner door handle to latch). Might also be coming up there with a set of star (five spoke) aluminum wheels in LUV lug pattern w/o center caps. 15" w/ I believe 8"fronts and 10" rears though tires are crap.

Regular gas in the L.A. area right now is about $3.50. Nevada is probably a good idea.

I made the drive from Lakewood (Tacoma) Washington to OKC in about 2 1/2 days... U-haul truck pulling an s-10 on a tow dolley (back two wheels on the ground [ driveline disconnected])... at first we started at about 55mph... by the time I got on the backside of the mountians we were cruising an avarage of 75mph....
took about 2 1/2 days... where we HAD to stop twice because we were just WAY WAY too tired.

I was pretty lucky... I checked the oil on the u-haul before I left... and didnt think about it the whole way until we got into OKC....
It no longer even registered on the dipstick!

Take a radar detector if your going to speed.... saved me a couple times.
80-120 bucks for a radar or 150+ for a speeding ticket
I dont normally speed, but I had/have one that I use for long trips.... especially when I lived in Wa and had my little speedy s-10... driving out to the coast to go surf for the weekend.

Id like to see a pic of your rims and some spec's on them as well.... I might be interested

expect to spend some money... I only had an appartment and my little truck.... and just the U-haul bill was 1800..... plus the gas... and I dont remember what that was... maybe aonther 200-400 bucks..
I know it will be alot more now....

I hope you have a job lined up out there.... when I was out there, there wasnt a job to save my life..... even as a diesel/heavy mech with a degree and all the tree loggers out there

IMO there are only two places on the planet that I have visted and really liked... one is Port Angeles Wa and Cairns Australlia

Well, it took me 5 days to get here (many stops on the way) and less than $500 in gas. Had lotsa probs on the way. 4th gear went out, and 3rd started acting up. Tie rod started acting up (greased then cinched down), and about 100 miles after that was fixed one of my tires decided it wanted to baloon on roughly 1/3 the area up to the size of my forearm. Busted my exhaust on the poor tx highways. And punched a hole in my lower radiator hose out in the middle of the desert (fixed with a trim rivet, tape, and a case of purified drinking water). Now the good things, even running in 3rd for half the trip, so loaded down that my tires rubbed on the fenders, I averaged over 16mpg. Only had one cop pull behind me, and that was when I stopped to check my tire and he was only asking if I needed any help (I shoulda asked where the closest looney bin was). Anyways, I am now in Oregon and will be trying to get everything set up here. I still have those 15" AlumiStars if anyone close to Roseburg is interested (still have no center caps for em). Well, everyone have fun while I look for a job.....

Sounds like it was an adventuresome trip. Glad you made it. Good luck on the job search.
