"Rubber window gasket seals front and rear"

Just how many people need these?
I looked at a truck today that they were both rather sun dried and cracked out.
Would there be a demand to make these if I looked into it?

there web pages don't show much at all

http://www.serviceautoglass.com/

http://www.glassusa.com/

but we have one here local and I have already checked on the windshield rubber before because mine needed it, and I will check on the rear tomorrow since I now need rubber for the rear because of my attempts of swapping from a solid back glass to a sliding back glass. If they have them I will fork over there prices for all of y'all.

Cool, there are 5 SoCal location suppliers so that should be a great start!

Well I have good news and bad news........

They do still sell windshields and back glasses, But they only sell the rubber for the windshield.

$63 For the plan rubber (4X4)
$65 For the rubber with chrome (2X4)

Sorry RPOZ11 best I could do man, I may do some more searching with a few other company's to see if I can round something up.

Hey, I need the rear as well.

I was watching 'My Classic Gar' and they were interviewing a representative of Steele Rubber. He said that if you sent him an original they would evaluate the cost to reproduce vs. potential sales and let you know if it would be worth their time to reproduce it. We should take a poll similiar to the T-Shirt poll seeing who would purchase. If we approached a reproduction company with X orders it might help persuade them.

Never thought of that Eric, I think I remember watching that episode as well. Well Redluv80 has a good rear rubber (It is one W/O the Chrome) maybe he would allow me to borrow his to send it off to do this. It would be worth it if it meant getting someone to produces these. Then we could do as you said create a poll so we could have the X amount of numbers so they would hopefully have enough persuasion to start making them.

I just wonder if there is a close replacement like a courier or datsun that would work to go unnoticeable.

Go ahead and start a poll, I will pin it to the top, that is one of the few peices I need to replace on my truck. the idiot that painted my truck didnt tape off the back window for crap and I tore the rubber in the corner trying to get it loose from the paint! Good idea Eric!!!

just FYI i contacted Metro, SoffSeal, Steele and a few local rubber product maker about making shifter boots and two were flat not interested and the third had me call so they could ask a few questions. they told me there was not enough interest to make if feasable plus they would want to share start up costs. they recommended getting a solid number together along with a perfect original for a mold. the guy said at least 100 to think about shifter boots.

Ok, well should we look into making the rear window gaskets?
If I did them, what would ya'll pay?
You see, production costs and total run numbers wwill have to be factored into this!
There may only be a certain minimum run or it may be a bigger minimum run number...
Like all things fit is KEY!
I'd hate to runa set to be made and not have them done correctly.
Over a large response will I fulfill the walk on doing this...

I ran the numbers with my friend who owns PMT (Pacific Molded Tech), a rubber molding company and the price was high with him making them for me at his cost.

well, here is my thing on the spreader...
The LUV had a chrome plated plastic bead to spread the gasket.
I think it was more cosmetic than function.
If we did a spreader gasket, GM made a black bead that would fulfill those who wanted a NO chrome look; and still have the seal.
Its all a matter of preference I suppose!

So one is not more 're-usable' than the other, it is just if you want beauty chrome ? Well stock it didn't have it so maybe most of us dont want the chrome or just want the stock, maybe. . .

That's why I propose the spreader; with or without the chrome bead, make it with the provision, if you use the black bead, it will not be so noticeable!

I would LUV to get the chrome trim back on my truck but no way to get that anymore either!
Also, I thought the poll was to see how many people would purchase a gasket if someone could make them so we could see if we have enough interest, not what style and maybe for what price they would be willing to pay.
