Post subject: 76 luv refuse to start
PostPosted: Thu Jul 11, 2002 5:52 pm
:( Hi my 76 luv has a starting problem -- has always started faithfully -- sat for a while 6-8 weeks -- now it just cranks -- replaced the points, rotor, cap and condensor. There seems to be fuel from the pump when I pull the line (although the pump continues to make its rattle noise instead of stopping when mx pressure is reached) and spark is present although it is a bit weak in my opinion. The wire in the distributer seems to be intact also. When I dribble a bit of gas down the carb the truck starts and runs but then dies any thoughts -- I'm a bit perflexed? Thanks Keith

SOUNDS LIKE A STUCK NEEDLE & SEAT IN THE CARB. OR TRY FUEL PRESSURE GAGE ON YOUR PUMP TO SEE WHAT ITS AT. I BELIEVE IT SHOULD BE ABOUT 5 PSI

The needle and seat looked ok -- lots of gas all over the place took the side cover off all looked ok -- I'm beginnig to think that there is not enough fuel pressure -- will replace the pump

Just an update -- it was the fuel pump -- $86 for an exact fit -- it starts
