I was thinking of selling my 76 luv because it got into an accident. Its not bad and definatly fixable but my insurance company is trying to total it out. What I was wondering about has anybody else gotten paid out for a total on their luv. My luv was in beatuiful shape. Perfect not body damage low mil. mass nice. I am trying to get a higher value on the car so if any body is trying to sell their luv or even if your not just post an add on the bulliten board with pictures or good discription for how much you would want to sell it for, and I will be able to use that against the insurance company. Please help I would greatly appreciate it a lot.

Hey Dave, It's eeerr Dave 8) I rememeber when I had a accident and the other drivers insurance totaled my car(88 chevy celeberity) They had a gruop of car dealerships that they used to take a poll and see what the average price of what the they would sell it for on the lot. I think that was state farm or farmers insurance in WA state, I got $1587.65 and I only paid $1400 a year before. Could'nt hurt to ask if they have a plan like that to find the value of your truck. Anyway hope this helps....

from what I understand, insurance companys have a book that tells them what a particular vehicle is worth. if the cost of fixing that vehicle is more than a certain percentage they total it.
that is why they total alot of sportbikes, because the bodywork can cost upwards of $3500 to $4000 to repair.
hope this helps.

Its a good idea for ANYONE to have any car appraised that is older and has been fixed up. An appraisal will closely value your car and what you have in it- or what it would cost to replace it. then usually you can pay insurance on that amount. the appraisal usually costs a few bucks. the insurance will go up but totally depends on your situation.

Ive looked into this extensively, as i have well over 10k into my truck and it blue books at MAYBE $1500. 8O that would suk.

Hey guys,
The problem I have with using NADA or Kelly blue book is that they do not take into acount what you or previous owners have done to the vehicle, and even if you have receipts for mods, parts or upgrades the book value is nowhere near what it would really be worth. So say you have put $5000 into the drivetrain but the body is a little rough the the book would list the vehicle in poor condition and the book would not represent the true value of the vehicle. That is why I was surprised when the insurance company I mentioned before did their estimate the way they did I was surprised to see that when you talk to a seller (The car lot)
the value of a vehicle is entirerly different from a buyer (The insurance company) the book on my car at the time was $1250 good $875 bad.
Big difference. For a truck to be around for 23 years in the book is depriceating the price when in reality for it to be around for this long and to be anything but junk should make the price go up in my opinion.
Anyway take the settlement buy it back as "junk" and drive the damn thing till the wheels fall off.

Dave
