My axle is in the shop to get reworked. The 3rd member is to be rebuilt with new bearings and the housing is to get new axle pads and set up with the correct pinion angle. i took it in on Feb 04 and was told that it would be ready no later than the 12th. I called on the 12th and he hadn't even started on it yet! I was given a new date of the 14th. I called again an got an answering machine. My guess is that he cut out for the holiday weekend. I then called again on the 18th and talked to one of the mechanics and he said he didn't think it was readyand he'd tell the owner i called and he would call me back. I didn't recieve a return call. I am not happy with this! I hate having to send my stuff to a shop because of this. In comparison, Moser Engineering was top-notch!! Their turnaround and quality of work was exactly what they had promised. Do your homework when it comes to needing service work.

man that really sucks the big one. did you go pick up your stuff and take it some where else. and give em the big old bird. i had a shop that was taking forever on a valve job once after a bunch of calls and getting no where. i finnally went to the shop to see what was going on i found out they sold my 186 castings to someone else. they tried to get me to take some small valve 882s. they finnaly found a set after a couple of weeks after a whole bunch of arguing i got the heads done for 75% off.later

I called again today and the guy was out(again). He was supposed to call me back and he didn't. This shop is 80 miles away and i dont know of any other place to take it to. This guy was recommended highly for his quality of work but he's not comming thru with his word on its completion. I might go there tomorrow and find out exactly whats going on. I put 250 dollars down on the repairs and i figure he'll try and screw me on that too.

it really sucks when you pay good cash to have someone do somethin, and the jew ya.

A buddy paid more than a grand just to have a "reputable" rebuild shop 'assemble' his 350. with in a few minutes he ground down a lobe on his cam, and bent a pushrod. the guy didnt fix it. looser.

REO is still there but they dont do much anymore. I checked with them to rework my hubs to 5 lug and they didn't want to do it plus i wanted some parts bead blasted and the machine was broke and it didn't look like it would be fixed anytime soon. Its a shame too cause i used to send alot of my stuff to them, they did good work. I guess he's semi-retired and only deals with circle track stuff. Im not going to say who's working my axle yet cause they might find out thru this website. I'll probably go there tomorrow and find out. After its all done i'll say loudly who not to take your business to.

Lol Yeah that is a shame that he's not doing that much work anymore. but he was always into the whole circle track thing anyway. I used to have them do all my work too, they did awesome work. I also used to get some stuff done at Nauert auto but since Grandpa Nauert died many years back I havent had them do much ! lol The old man did a 400 engine for me once told me it would be ready to race the next day !!! 8O I was like what???? But true to his word I took my "fresh" engine to...... awww what the hell was the name of the place oh yeah Academy racetrack and ran it the next day and pulled consistent 11's all day without slicks ! lol I was only 17 and couldnt afford slicks for it yet but that friggin truck would move thats for sure.

Nauert is still there but it's not really an auto store anymore. Its like a hardware store that sells auto stuff. He has the oddball stuff that nobody carries. He can get a square peg to fit a round hole and make it look factory. He sure was a great help in fitting stuff to my truck. Carquest was big on machine work but not anymore. Everything is dying off here when it comes to specialized service work. Killeen is getting just as bad.

I called again today and it turns out that the # i dialed was no longer in service. I paniced and jumped in my truck and headed 80 miles to his shop. The shop was open and he was working in the shop. He has the 3rd member completed but the housing is still not done. He garanteed it would be completed on friday. He apoligized over and over for the delay. At least the 3rd member is done. I also made absolutely sure of the new pinion angle that i want. I dont think the guy is seriously trying to screw me over, He's just not a good businessman.

I had visions of my 3rd member being used in some beater-ass dirt track car or sold outright to someone else and he would try to sell me a different member that he had trouble scrounging all of the parts needed he had laying in a junk pile. But im sure thats my 3rd member. Being left in the dark was the problem. I didn't hear anything for them so naturally i felt something shady was going on. And when the phone didn't work, that was too much! I got a garantee of friday for the housing and it will be setup for anybody working that day to be able to handle me picking it up.

After weeks of hassles and alot of Hwy driving, i finally have my axle parts back! The mechanic actually did a good job on the housing. I am happy to get things on track again. He has restructured his work force and things are getting done. For my inconvenience he took off 105.00 off of the original estimate. I think that was very nobel of him to do so. After all is said and done, He made things right for me as best as he could. I am impressed with the way he handled things to make this customer a good deal. If i need other axle work i will most likely take my business to him again. I have to think i seeked his services at a bad time and he was in a bad position to where he and his crew could not meet the workload. He knows you cant stay in business by burning the customer or having employees that cant pull their load. I am glad to see that i had this guy pegged all wrong. It did take 3 weeks longer than what was promised but he definitely made things right by me and the axle is setup exactly to what i specified. For axle work in the Central Texas area, you might want to concider talking to :
Larry Mercer c/o Pro Gear. Elm Mott (Waco)Texas
