BTE is a good company to order from. I didn't see what I needed listed on the website. I already had a spare Kevlar band, so I needed a new high gear clutch and steel pack. I called them @ 2:00 p.m. Tuesday during the hurricane. The guy who answered the phone said he knew what I needed and it arrived on my doorstep @ 11:00 a.m. Wednesday via UPS. $37.42...

Ok, my truck has never had really good brakes. It has the factory discs on front converted to 5 lug and the factory Lincoln Versailles discs on the 9 inch. The brakes had the factory proportioning valve still plumbed and a Ford (of unknown lineage) master cylinder. It stopped OK, but not what I would call a real world setup. I generally operate on the 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it' theory. The last trip out the master cylinder died. So now I can upgrade. I got a Chrysler master cylinder from Napa, (this is the same as the one that Strange and Willwood sell). I also got a line loc and an adjustable proportioning valve. I also ordered a line an fitting kit. The plan is to do away with the factory valve also. This should give me a pretty good upgrade over what I had. I made a plate for each side of the firewall, the sheet metal is pretty thin in that area. The one for the front side isn't strictly necesssary from a strength standpoint, but it worked out that I wouldn't have to shorten the rod for the pedal if I used this thickness, plus I can access the rear cap of the master better...

Well, the install was pretty straightforward. Unfortunately, no one around here carries the Sae to metric adapter fittings. I got a local hydraulic supply house to order me some. They will hopefully be in at the end of the week, just in time for me to be back at work. The plates came in handy. In order to get the correct predal ratio for this set up, I needed to move the master cylinder up from stock. It turns out the holes to mount the master are the same distance apart as the top set that held the brake booster on when it was still stock. All I had to do was cut out a little sheet metal in the center for clearance for the center of the master, and it was good to go. The plates were long enough to cover the existing hole. All in all, this is about a 4 on the skill level scale of 1 to 10. Braking should be MUCH improved, and the new stuff totaled weighs less than half that of the old cast iron master.

Can you list the parts used for the brake change? Including the fittng sizes? I am looking to do that brake master cylider swap in about 2 weeks and I am going to use the brake booster from the same truck as the master cylinder

OK, The master is from Napa. The part number is 39476, cost was $38.00 plus change, no core for a NEW United one. The fitting size on the master on both ports is 3/8-24 inverted flare. The stock LUv lines are 10mmx1.0. I didn't run a booster, not sure if the one I listed used one. The adapter fitting is part # BQ-50. This is a Brake Quip part number. My local Parker hydraulic hose dealer is the suplier. Cost is $6.81 each. I got the line lock and the proportioning valve from Jeg's. I also got a fitting assortment, but ended up not using enough of it to justify the cost. I used a short piece of premade brakeline from the master to the proportion valve, it was 3/8-24 inverted flare on one end and 1/8 npt on the other, the proportioning valve is 1/8 npt on each end. Hardpiped 1/8 npt to 1/8 npt to the line lock. Out of the line lock with another premade brakeline to a tee that came with the assortment kit. 2 adapters (the tee was a 3 way 3/8-24 inverted flare) then to the 2 front brake lines after removing them from the favtory valve. This is for the front brake set up. Yes the proportioning valve is on the front. Willwood and strange both recommend this, as you will be stopping with the big back tires and not so much the skinny front ones, in a drag racing application. Street rides are usually the other way around. The back line is removed from the factory valve and the adapter fitting is used to hook it to the other brake port. Bleed everything and enjoy...

No problem, hope it helps. You can flare your own lines and avoid the adpaters, but I don't have any fittings on hand. THe 3 I need were almost $8.00 and I would have to buy the flaring tool. It would have cost more, So I am doing the adapter route...

The master cylinder from Aerospace has the proportion from front to rear so you don't need a proportioning valve. But it is more than $38.

no, not adjustable. can't remember what the front/rear ratio is but you dont need an external valve. haven't had any problems with mine yet.

Got this recently. A young guy ordered a MSD Pro Billet distributor, a 6al box and a Blaster 2 coil for a mostly stock 4x4. This arrived instead...

He said it was too big for what he wanted. I told him it would work. He said he was scared of it and gave it to me. I told him I couldn't do that, so he took my trusty Blaster 2 in trade.

Update time. I got tired of waiting on some promised help to arrive for the past 3 weeks and fabbed a tranny install tool on an old floor jack. Got it in and hooked up. I also made a one man bleed rig and finished my brake plumbing project. I also Swapped out the Hicrappy er, Hitachi style starter for a Nippondenso style starter that I was given and repaired (broken idler gear) I still need to install the new coil and wire the new roll control, and replace a sticky Moroso water pump drive motor, then let it down off the jackstands. I was hoping to finish all that today, but my grandmother passed and I shut the play time down to help with that.
