ok due to insuffient funds, i may go ahead and drop the v6 into my luv, and proceed to buy a s10 for the v8 conversion, i have been looking and it would be much cheaper and easier, so i can just deck my luv out and have a little horse power with the v6 and can have a strictly drag s10 cause you know i gotta show off my LUV anyway because its becoming hard to come up with money for a rearend and then have it narrowed....etc....of course my main focus will be on the luv. unless i could find a cheap narrowed rearend near by.

i have the v6 and no v8.......so i dont know

later

If you have the V-6 then do it! you can later put in a V-8. I've been reworking stuff for my truck to eventualy accept a V-8. Drive the truck with the V-6 and build a cooling system that will handle a V-8 for it. Same goes for the read end and driveshaft. Trans cooler if you go auto. Shifter. Charging system. Fuel system if need be. You may find that you need front end parts once you get the extra weight of the 4.3 on it. Get everything built up to handle a V-8 as you drive with the V-6. The performance gain over the stock motor is worth it. At this point i could get a V-8 put in my truck with only firewall work and motor mounts. Dont sink too much money into suping up the 4.3 cause you'll eventually swap it out. Stop second guessing on what you should do. Get a motor under the hood and you will see what you want. For instance, i have 2.75 gears in the axle and i love it. I can criuse down the Hwy with ease and have plenty of power to pass. But most of the trucks on this site would never even entertain the idea of such tall gearing. You're gonna have to drive the truck and see what you want it to do for you. Get the motor you have in and you'll be happy to get it on the road. Build it! For 18 years i've never regreted the Buick motors i've ran with. DO IT, DO IT, DO IT!

i hear you'll put out more money building a good v-6 over a v-8 but hell i'd drop in whatever is going to take the shorter time and then save for the other :D

If i could get my DAMN axle housing back from the shop i'd be able to take a criuse down the Hwy but im still on hold. It's driving me nuts and pissing me off at the same time! I got the 3rd member but the housing still isn't done. If you could see what a V-6 feels like, you might just shoot yourself for not having yours put together already. I've been happy all of these years with this setup and i've reworked stuff thats V-8 capable. I've ironed out all of the bugs in it and the big reason for changing out to a V-8 later is because there's so much more you can do to a SB Chevy motor. If there were a butt load of options for the Buick V-6, i'd be very content with what i got, but even things like headers cost 450.00 a set. The truck is nice and fast the way it is so building the axle and cooling system for a V-8 is just fine. I can drive it while i get everything lined up for another conversion. Where is it written that your not supposed to drive your truck until you have everything setup with a V-8? Is that a rule to be able to step into "V-8 World"? If you had all of the money and time in the world it would be the way to go but in my world, rust never sleeps and bills must be paid. I cant wait to get my axle back so i can show you what can be had if you jumped into it. Hell man!! your stock motor is long gone from the engine compartment. Thats a good head start on the project. I was unemployed when i took on the task of fitting the first V-6 motor in my truck. I seemed like forever to be able to scrape up enough money to buy all of the used parts i needed to finish the job. It took over a year just to piece it all together but once it was on the road, it was all worth it. DO IT!!!

drop in an 8" from a maverick it is stonger and safer than the s-10 rear at least if you did break an axle it would stay in the rear end. i picked up one at the local you pull it for 80.00. the only down fall is it is wider than the luv rear end so you need to run rims with alot of backspacing to keep your tires under.the other rear end you could look for is a mercury versalies it comes with a 9" and i was told is the same width as the luv you might check to verify though it also has disk brakes. later
