yeah i bought my first luv (and first vehicle) a year ago this month...can't believe it's been this long...and it still runs good. anyways, i've got a problem. nothing new, but my carburetor is crapping out on me. a few months ago i bought a kit and rebuild my hitachi carb using the good parts from two different hitachis, or they seemed like good parts. worked pretty good for a while. anyways now it's really sucking gas and oil. i had it tuned by a mechanic, but there is basically left except to put it out of it's misery. So now i need to know what to get. I know a lot of people reccomend weber's, but what should i get, and should i buy new or used? i need to know everything i should get so that it'll be completely compatable with my 78' luv.

One word "Weber"

I got both of mine from JTSpeed.com

Check'em out

The only problem I have had was my fault, I didn't put loctite on the adaptor plates and they backed off just enough to piss me off.

Jim

If you are sending oil out of the exhaust, a carburetor may not be your problem.

The carb doesn't have a lot to do with oil burning, but it can be a contributing factor. Very rich fuel mixture can wash down the cylinders with excess gas and cause the rings to let oil past. The fuel can also get into the oil past the rings and thin it out, allowing it to leak past rings/seals/valve stems easier that it would have otherwise.

I'd agree with luvstruck though, using a significant amount of oil is probably not a carb problem.

it doesn't burn tons of oil, it's just about ever month to a month and a half i have to put in about a quart. the guy i had tune the carb said some mixture valve or something, don't remember what exactly, was bad and he tried a temporary fix. anyways that's wore off by now, and i figure i need a new one.
