Hi all just wondering are most the parts on a 1976 luv interchangable with the 72 luvs?
say the front bumper ?
and brake booster setup?
doors, fenders and bonnets and stuff like that?

To the best of my knowledge...1972-77 Luvs are all pretty much the same.

There were some fairly major changes in 76 to both the body and the drivetrain. The bumper on the 75 and older is different, as is the valance and apron right behind the bumper. I believe though, that most of the parts would bolt on from the newer style. You might find the fender is a tad different right where the valance/apron bolt in though. The bumper brackets I'm also not positive on, but it seems like the bolt holes in the frame were in about the same place.

If you are putting the 76 hood/bonnet, fenders, and doors on a 72 I think the worst you'd hit might be a bolt hole or two that don't line up. Nothing a drill wouldn't fix in a couple seconds, and I'm fairly certain even that would not be a problem.

I would guess the brake master cylinder/booster would fit, though some of the plumbing might be moved around quite a bit. I can't recall if the 72 had a vac boost on the brakes at all. If it didn't, you might not have anyplace to hook into vac on the intake. The motor in the 76 is completely switched around (intake on the other side, among other things) so some of the parts just won't fit.

If you are looking at a donor truck, a 75 might be the best year. Almost as "upgraded" as the 76s and newer, but with the same style motor as the 72. However, one plus to a 76 would be that you can swap over the disc brake setup in the front to the 72.

At first I was going "WTF, front drums on a 76 aint right" but I suppose outside the US things may have been different. You could also have a couple of trucks donating their parts to make that one or it could just have been a late build 75 truck that squeaked over to get labeled a 76. Its hard telling with this stuff sometimes. If your 76 truck has the same style of motor (intake and exhaust both on same side) as your 72, then think of it as a 75 when reading any of our egocentric USA based info. ;) That should help you keep from thinking we're all crazy. :P

Front discs are a really good upgrade, and not too hard to do if you can find the parts. I think if you can find the caliper bracket and a hose you could buy new/rebuilt parts for almost everything else. Maybe someone should update the how-to in the info section of luvtruck.com with a shopping list of part numbers needed to buy it new.
