Well here it is! FINALLY. This is what I have been working on for the past 8 months. It had been sitting for over 10 years before we pulled it out of the field...

Image

These rims came from a LUV my dad bought years ago. We had no idea they were aluminum till I cleaned them. I had the fronts machined for the 4X4 hubs for $25.

Image

A close up of the wheels. You can see what they used to look like if you look past the spokes on the inside. Eagle One aluminum mag cleaner. Look for the black bottle with the green stop sign.

Image

New grille and repainted headlight trim rings. I used a semigloss flexible trim paint after sanding with 200 grit. Looks great. Notice the homemade bull bar I installed. This will eventually protect some fog lights I plan to install. This is actually a stainless steel grab bar for a CJ Jeep. :)

Image

Bed and rollbar coated with Herculiner.

Image

A look from the rear. Notice the front and rear bumpers are coated with Herculiner also.

Image

....as well as the inside of the cab. Ignore the factory interior. :) That will be black in a month or so.

Image

Note the speakers in the kickpanel and the speakers in the rear. I made some custom panels for that...

Image

The cab was all caved in, so we had to do some major body work to it. Here you see the inside. We got the big dents out and then welded in some 1/4" rod to give it some support.

Image

This used to be all caved in. You could never tell it now.

Image

New Grant wheel, stereo, dashboard cover, and tach.

Image

This dash cover is from Coverlaymfg.com. It allows you to use your factory dash vents. Mine was a bit weathered, so I sanded it a bit, and used the flexible trim paint on it once again.

Image

Replacement weather stripping thanks to a donor '85 Trooper II. They fit great. You just have to trim the length on the bottom.

Image

New shift boots for the tranny and transfer case, as well as shift nob for the transfer case, also from the Trooper II.

Image

New motor from the donor truck. Notice the electric fan setup. We also transferred the entire A/C from the donor truck to this one.

Image

Pic of the electronic ignition module from the donor truck. Anyone know where these come from? New air filter cover also. Go buy a 9" Spectre kit from Pep Boys or somewhere, and install the lid upside down. :)

Image

Euro style mirrors. I think it looks good.

Image

Here from the front with the lights on. Those KC's are 150 watts. I got the whole kit cheap from JCWhitney.

Image

Well thats it. To date I have spent around $2500 getting it to this point (tune up, replacing the motor, clutch, new stuff, paint, etc). Next on the list is to redo the interior in black, and replace the exhaust, and possibly a rear locker and another set of Mud Terrain tires and rims for offroading. I hope you like it.

All I can say is "What a bad ass truck!" and "Good Job!"

Now a couple of questions. What did you do to the chrome to make the Herculiner stick? I want to black all the chrome on my truck, and I thought about Herculiner for that too. I will be camoflaging my truck, so I want all the shiny stuff gone. What I didn't think about was putting Herculiner on the interior. How hard was that, and was it a big mess? I hope you don't mind if I copy a couple of your ideas.

Thanks for any input, and, again, good job!!!

Actually, it wasn't very hard. I sanded everything with 200 grit. I removed the bumpers for the paint job, so it was fairly unmessy, but I did the second coat of Herculiner while they were installed. If you are just carefull, it won't make a mess if they are left on the truck. You will definately want to do at least 2 coats of the stuff. For the inside I removed the seat. There was no carpet or anything when I started, and I wanted something pretty maintenance free and water proof. The kit gives you a gallon of the stuff, plus a roller, extra roller sponge, brush, and a 3M scotch brite pad. The pad works good on corners and uneven surfaces, but after doing the front bumper with it, it just didnt look like it was rough enough. Just take your time and dont go real fast with the roller and it wont go all over the place. Also, buy some latex gloves, it will save you from scrubbing your hands later. :P

For my project (bed, interior, and bumpers) it took a gallon plus 2 extra quarts of the stuff for 2 good coats. Total $160.

But you will probably want to get some Xylene from Home Depot also. You can use this to clean the surface after sanding, and also use it as a thinner for the Herculiner in case it starts to thicken up in the can while you are applying it. I think that goes for about $10-15 for a gallon. Once again, use the latex gloves with this stuff. I had to changes gloves every 5-10 minutes while this stuff was on my hands, so no telling what it will do to skin (and your liver).

Thanks. I think I'm going to apply it to the body as well. It will be a straight line back from bumper height all the way around the truck. I read a post on wone of the 4x4 board that I frequent, and this seems to increase durability with rocks coming up from the road (and looks good too). I will also be coating my grill guard and nerf bars with it.

Thanks guys.

BTW, that color is called "Moonmist Gray Mica". Its a color from Mitsubishi Montero Sport's. In the sun, it looks even better. It has just a tad of gold metallic flake in it, and it looks awesome on sunny days, almost like it is glowing. :P

I took the drive down to Austin to see TufLuv's truck and i gotta say that it's a sweet setup. The herculiner on the floorboards and interior should be a must for 4x4 trucks. The coating on the bumpers give it a very durable look. The tires, rims and paint look great together. It runs very well going down the Hwy. Nothing outragiously wrong, just little stuff that is irritating Chris.
Show me the digits......5 Stars!!!

Thanks bro. I'm gonna try and get the fuel lines blown out this week, and I'm going to go buy some of that stuff that's supposed to help with water in the fuel tank. Hopefully that will do it, if not then I guess I will replace the fuel filter and pump again, and maybe drop the tank and have it washed out. I hope I don't have to go that far, but what has to be done, has to be done.

Anyone have any suggestions for a better fuel pump than the universal Beck-Arnley they sell at Autozone? Do I really need something better?

I found that the Autozone pump was to erratic in fuel delivery. Sometimes it would pump alot, sometimes not much. It is a wobble displacement pump but I bought another from O'Reillys. It seemed to deliver constant fuel pressure and seems to be holding up fine. It's been on my truck for over a year now.
