K, this is a long read but worth it I think.

I'm in the Camaro again. Just got off work. Getting on the freeway and there's about 6 cars behind a Big Rig that's doing about 30 MPH up the onramp. Here in CA we have onramps that are split into a "diamond lane" that is supposed to be for cars with multiple passengers, and then a normal lane.

Well, I look up the ramp and no one is on the diamond lane. I'm an impatient bastard so I downshift, move over, and start passing cars. Right as I get to the top of the ramp I pass this truck at the front of the line. The two onramp lanes are about to merge into one, so I'm still on the gas to get in front of the truck. I pass the truck and I'm doing about 85mph right at the top of the ramp.

Well, right as I pass the front of the truck, I look over to the shoulder to see a Highway Patrol sitting there waiting for people to do exactly what I just did, blow up the diamond lane illegally. For some reason he was leaning against his hood with his ticket book. He saw me blow by him and the truck. I looked into my rearview mirror to see him literally diving for his driver door. And I mean he was horizontal dude. I thought "ohhhhh fuck, he's pissed".

This is where things got interesting. I looked forward onto the freeway to merge into traffic, and somehow, someway, the first lane of the freeway was completely clear for as far as I could see. I looked back in my mirror and couldn't see the CHP. I'm sure he was trying to pull out onto the freeway amongst the big rig and line of cars I had just left behind, which were all now blocking his view of me. I was about to pull over when I remembered that I didn't have a front license plate. For some reason I remember chuckling a little at the sight of the open road in front of me and the thought of what I was about to do.

I dropped down into 3rd and mashed the gas. Wound that out, and grabbed 4th still to the floor. I never looked in my mirror again because now I was going over 100mph. Finally grabbed 5th and stayed in it. To be honest I never looked down at the speedo again so I dont' know how fast I was going, but I was passing cars like they were standing still.

I got to the next freeway exit REAL quick at that speed. My heart was racing but I was trying not to panic. I thought my best bet would be to get off the freeway ASAP so I headed down the offramp and concentrated on stopping my car from well over 100mph. Surprisingly I slowed it down with room to spare.

Right next to the offramp was a gas station. I drove into the station and parked on the far side of the building so I wasn't visible from the freeway. I tried to act calm and went in to buy a soda. The truth was, I was shitting a brick. I remember handing the money to the store clerk and my hand was shaking. She looked at me strange as she took my money.

I went back out and sat in my car to try and calm down. To my surprise, I never saw that CHP again. I never heard anything about it either so he never got close enough to get my license number.

After I calmed down I got back on the road (taking surface streets) and headed home. Thus, the happy ending.

uuuuuuu i have one! really short but i almost shit my pants.
well one day i was coming from work around 11 at night or so i got on the 2 freeway and well i was doing a good 85 in my luv like i always do like there was no cars so there was no reason to brake so then the freeway ends right. it ends into a street no cars no nothing well the offramp said to exit at 45 but i always exit it at 60 so i did i exit at 60 but then i saw the light stop turn red so i was like ok ill slowdown so i tuched the brake pedal and the F***ing thing went all the way in with out slowing down a bit. so i was like ohh $hit so i started down shifting and using the hand brake i eventuly slowed down before i got to the light and drove like that the rest of the way home. what hapen was some how the brake line in the rear broke.

I was driving my bro-in-law's MR2 in Japan on a crowded street with nowhere to go but straight (bicycles and pedestrians lining the street) when the car about 10 meters in front of me showed brake lights. I let of the gas and start to ease in the clutch, and the engine races to redline. I get scared, let the clutch out, almost hit the car in front of me, push in the clutch again, and shut down the screaming torque monster with the lightened flywheel. I almost shit my fu**ing pants. It turns out the gas pedal got stuck on the floormat. LOL I almost flew those floormats across two lanes of vehicle and foot traffic while dodging glares from other drivers. I wouldn't drive the car again until he got rid of the mats. Anyway, that's all I've got.

back when my luv was still a 4banger, i found that at around 75 mph(my top speed) that drafting is not a good idea  . I was goin down the interstate one day, not payin attention, next thing i know i'm about 10 feet behind a semi and the whole damn truck starts shaking like mad so i of course backed off a little. I've always wondered what the fastest stable speed was for these trucks (my guess was about 100) but if i was at the track who knows how stupid i could be then seeing how u only go that top speed for short amount of time.

Hello again everybody i've been away for a while (and much to long ) hope to spend some more time with the forum now Was very pleased to see some nice high speed stories stories ! Hope lots more are to come in this topic !!!

What you say Bob is very interesting about the Luv and stability . But what the ...... SURELY A LUV CAN GO MUCH FASTER / SAFER THAN THE STORIES I"VE READ BEFORE ?????!!!!!!!?????!!!!!!

Again i can imagine with bad shocks and not lowered / weak springs / open bed its not very good but when this stuff is all fixed (maybe a small skirt in the front nothing ricer ofcourse but to stop the wind lifting the car) it can't be THAT bad . :?

I've had mine LUV up towards 110 many times and it feels fine as long as you don't try to get aggro. In other words, 110 on the freeway or a track is fine. 110 down some shitty curvy road, not too good unless your nice to it. For some reason it starts to oversteer if you jerk it around too much.

not many high speed stories in the luv, but with the 3.8 V6 in it back when I rode "enduro/woods" motorcycles used to pack in the two motorcycles and all the gear and drive 85 all the way to wherever we were riding that weekend. and yep the truck has been lowered since a few months after I got it, so whatever you wanna haul at a fast speed it is all good.

In the wet I could drive a good ways up the road sideways spinning the tires....I started that with the 4 banger in high skool....hehe

My truck has the top cut out of it, so anytime I got up to about 85 there is so much wind noise from the top it is pitiful....if I wanna go fast the top has to come off....I will have to re-design this after the V8 gets in there....d'oh!

yeah so my stories aren't as good as others.....oh well....LOL

the superdome was an easy install. the kit was prettymuch straightforward.
someone has asked about it previously and I don't think they are in buisiness anymore. I can't find anything on the net about them....d'oh!
I guess I could call the number on the superdome, but I never think about it when I am at home.....d'oh!

oh yeah thanks for the compliment. :D

Got a story... not about the LUV but about my Z28. was driving to work at 4:30am a couple months back and the only other car on the road happens to be a Z06. so I down shift and we are gettin it. I am bouncing off the rev-limiter in overdrive about 160something and he is still walking away. anyway everybody knows top end runs, its not just a matter of how fast your car is but who has the balls to stay in it the longest. well finally he lifted and I managed to get ahead of him for about another mile. up on the horizon i see another car on the road. I am still flying up to it bouncing off the limiter the whole time. well i look up and its a COP!!! CHP!!! I lift but its too late. I blast by him at about 150. The guy in the vette was charging hard and didnt notice it was a cop at all. Went blowing by the cop at probably 165 or so. the vette and I both slow to about 90 which although is way over the speed limit but seems like a crawl compared to what we were just doing. well the cop pulls up next to me. I am far to scared to even look. the cop stares at me for a long tme. then steps on it and pulls up next to the vette and stares at him. then takes off!!! No ticket no flashing lights no sirens no nothing!!!

so about a month later, I am racing a porche on another freeway and we go flying by a CHP at about 130. this time I didnt even lift! we both kept going. CHP didnt even attempt a chase. They just kept cruisng along. Just my shittly luck, 6 months later i get pulled over for a lame ass 77mph in a 65 zone and for having modified exhaust and nitrous on my car. What a BS ticket that was. I was going with the flow of traffic!
