I was for some reason thinking of the first LUV I had years ago. I was on my way to work one morning and the bar that the clutch pedal attaches to broke in half on a 1-2 shift. I ended up driving the rest of the way(only about 5 miles) in first gear and luckily made all the lights on green. That was fun. I had a guy in the body shop of the dealership I was working at weld it back together. Anybody else had this happen?

i had a jeep cherokee pickup that the slave cyl went out on when i lived in austin back in my young days. i drove it for a month starting it in gear at every light and feel shifting it without grinding. i would let the car in front of me get about 2 lengths ahead before i hit the key, had to be careful with that first initial fire. it would jump like a bull first few times before i got used to feathering the throttle just right.
lmao in austin tx traffic that was exciting!!

I think almost everybody here has had that problem, mine did it 3 times back in the 80's, welded it twice and replaced it all together the 3rd time, not a problem anymore!! Automatic!
Luckily I caught mine going to the side before it totally broke off so I never had to drive around in 1st gear!!

Luckily mine went slowly, but when it did I was about 5 miles from home at the gas station and when I pulled in, the pedal was starting to gradually go to the left and the little plastic switch with the spring shot out of there. That is how I knew something wasn't quite right. I was able to drive it home no problem, but parked it until I had it welded.

Mine started moving to the left and I just drilled 2 holes in it and bolted the fargin thing back together, put a little lock-tite on the bolts, and it never was a problem again !

My cluch just wont disengage, Peddles great, but cables streched I think... any way I drove it home shifting on the fly after it happend with out insurnace while I was moving all my stuff to a new house. bad day havent been out in the luv since it happend. I adjusted the cable as far as I could but no luck. Also my throw out bearing is bad so its the heart of the problem. Thanks for the heads up on the faulty peddle assmbly.

I had to re weld and fix mine on the 78. The one in the 80 is fragile. It will brake eventually.
