Going to start this project log for my truck. Updates will be slow for a wile because of the no cash flow atm. But hoping to get some valuable information on rotary powered luvs that other people have done.http://s1270.photobucket.com/albums/jj616/tdarklink/
The orange truck Is one I used to own, sold it to buy the white 79 that I currently own.

well we have the same tach & toolbox.. and the ever famous plastic overflow bottle

not sure who has done a rotary, at least recently. i know i saw a burnout video of a 13bt luv that was bas@$$ so its been done very successfully before
it should actually be pretty easy since the 13b 12a whichever... are compact and light engines and put out some great top end power.. i thought about swapping the 13btt from my buddys rx7 he wrapped around a post but i haul things too often to have no bottom end power

what do you plan to use the luv for? daily driving, drifting? or just a fun toy to take out on sunny days

It's going to be a sunny day driver. No dd for this LUV, well unless it's sunny everyday ;). I don't plan on hauling anything in it, except myself and maybe one passenger. Plans..., Hmm, as for plans motor wise, turbo for sure. 300hp is the goal. I originally was going to do a 400hp sleeper LQ4 (if you can call it that) but really don't want to molest the body/firewall to get it to fit the way I want(no cowl hoods for me). Although that is still the ultimate goal, the rotary seems like a fun motor for the time being. That and the fact that you don't see many LUV's with rotorys. As for the body Mods, remove all rust, seam seal the crap out of everything, sound deadening the entire cab (roof, back of cab, floor pan, doors, firewall, fenders, hood, the works really). small sound system, discreet/clean. I know I've gone long winded here, but just thinking a bought it gets me all fired up. Anyways, lots to do and no money to do anything atm, will keep updating as I can.

Did the fuse block repair this weekend, I think it turned out pretty well.

Pulled the Radiator last weekend. Also, have a question about the two small 1/4 in steel tubing that comes off the bottom radiator tank. I've been told they are for transmission cooling. The hanes manual does not show these. What are they? Will post pictures up soon-ish. only have pictures of after removal.

as far as i know they are for A/T cooling, mine has them too but i have a 4 speed.
the manuals leave out some misc things like those sometimes  oh well, those could be useful if you are running an auto

It is an automatic, was just wondering how it routes through the tank. Whether it just routes through some fins or straight through the 1/4 tubing. A diagram would be helpful but the hanes does not have it.

Going to start pulling the old 1.8 out this week if I can find the motivation. May cut open the lower radiator tank to see how those cooler lines run as well. Seeing as I will be replacing the radiator for a new aluminium one.
Started off this evening by pulling the bumper off and getting the bed ready to be removed. The reason for this is space in the garage, I need to be able to push the truck as close to the garage door as possible.
I would take more pictures, but It's kind of hard to take pictures and do the work at the same time when working by yourself as some of you know. Don't get me wrong, it is possible. I will have to put a little more effort into taking more pictures.

13b turbo. Well ether way, with or without the sun I will probably drive it any way. I live about 2hrs south of Seattle, in a little town called Winlock, in the middle of bfn.
Beds off.
Image
A little bit of rust here and there.

Image
These next images are to show what I was talking about when I said move the truck as close as possible to the garage door, giving me extra room to move about around the front end. all in all was able to move the truck back about a 1ft.

I will say for being a 79, most of the bed bolts where in fantastic condition(probably due to the previous owner taking the bed off and replacing the old bolts with newer ones.)Just speculating don't actually know).
And the same goes for the gas tank vapor thingamajig in the bed, minimal rust.

When referring to minimal rust for me is comparing it the the previous 2 LUVs I owned (74 and a 80 4x4 mikado) which had rust holes in the floor boards and bed side (the bed side next to evap tank thing).
If I roll my tool cart out off to the side I will be able to get my motor hoist in there with minimal effort and room to spare. :)
Not sure about the motor just yet, need to do some scouting of the local wrecking yards first.

Motor and transmission getting close to coming out. The coolant, Oil and transmission fluid have been drained. All the wires are out of the way and most of the hoses are as well.

Motor and transmission ready to come out. All hoses, wires, ect, ect, disconnected. Only two motor mount bolts still holding it in. Need to go buy some chain in the morning to hook it up to my engine hoist.
