I wasn't going to start a thread for this truck but it looks like I am going to hang onto it so what the heck. I haven't had a stock Luv since 1983 so the G180 is something I am not that familiar with. I didn't know much in the 80's about working on cars and trucks, I mostly drove the crap out of them. I stumbled on this truck on Craigslist and it hadn't ran in 2 years but was all there. A young guy owned it and said he had replaced the fuel pump and filters and couldn't get it to run anymore. A mechanic didn't help, so it sat. The motor is supposed to have been rebuilt and the clutch was replaced also. It came with a spare G180 that also looks to have been rebuilt at some point too. I charged up the 2 year old battery and poured in some gas and she fired up then died. I found fuel got right up to the carb but none was getting in the float bowl. Using the forum I found the thread about the fuel inlet valve sticking. 5-6 taps to the inlet valve and she fired up without a splash of gas. I have been driving it up and down the street for the last week or so and it runs like a top. All it needs at this point is tires and a smog check. I found a ton of receipts in the glove box from the owner before the last guy for a new trans and clutch, paint job (1999) and interior. The paint looks like my blue one did when I got it so I think I can polish it out a bit. It is a Maaco paintjob and it is a thin coat of paint. I did sell the perfect rear bumper to lower my purchase expense but I have an old dirtworks bumper for it on my trailer. So far it is fun to play with and seems like a pretty good truck to work with.

Thanks Ron

I swapped the painted door seals for some stainless ones I had. I also put the wheels I had stashed away on, I need to find 2 more for the front. I'm trying to figure out the best way to get it shiny again without taking off too much paint. When I washed it the water was like orange soda.

I got a good deal on some wheels today with ok tires. They came off a Datsun 520. I am trying my best to leave it stock height but its getting hard to resist dropping at least the front just a bit.

perfect. We're both happy. I just have to put mine back together now. lol. It's funny how different people prefer different front ends. I think we tend to like what we are used to. Thank you.

Someday I hope to back-half the blue one but for now I am happy with it. I really need to put the 355 I have together and get it in the truck. The 307 just keeps running so it isn't a huge priority yet.

The paint looks promising so far, single stage at least. It had primer showing in a few spots before I started but the paint isn't coming off too bad. Looks like it was rubbed out at some point and left with no wax on it.

I took them off to polish it up. They were painted black so I am going to replace or repaint them before they go back on.

I went back to the junk yard with a socket for the steering wheel I saw last week and got a rough Mikado wheel. Two rows over was a V6 70's Courier with a nice seat in it. It was a good day at the junk yard. The center piece was missing on the steering wheel so I improvised with a spot mirror for now. According to the paper work in the glove box this truck drove 60 miles since its last smog check in 2013 which it passed with flying colors. I swapped out the leaky wheel cylinder and bled the brakes and it is ready for the road.

The truck passed smog yesterday amazingly enough. It only had 80 miles since the last time it passed in 2013. I found out the vacuum advance is not working so I am looking at my options. I want to put electronic ignition in so a distributor swap most likely. That would explain the lack of power to a point. I drove it 50 miles yesterday and all I kept thinking was it needs a small block. I had to crank down the torsion bars too. It felt like a 4x4 compared to the 72 and I could not resist dropping the front a little.

Ok the fun of a stock motor has completely warn off, I am not a fan at this point. A V8 makes a Luv a totally different vehicle in my opinion. I am not sure what to do with this truck yet.

If someone is interested in it send me a PM. Tags are good through December. My intention was to take the fenders and doors for my 72 and part it out but its nicer than a lot of Luvs I have looked at. If there is a purist out there who is interested shoot me a PM.

I had a better day with the Luv today. I got some new tires for the front and had the rears switched to a pair I had. The Firestones were 8 years old. It handles a lot better now and steers a bit easier since I went with a smaller front tire.
