Yes, not sure about the paper work yet. The owner hadn't gotten it transferred in his name, and his house burnt with said title...

I buy them when I can get them. I got 3 more I been after at least as long. If I could get one of the 2 auto trucks with working ac, I could use this one to make it a cherry daily...

If the guy can not get a replacement title, which he should be able to get one. Some states you can use a bond to get a title. their are companies that do that stuff. Cost is Usually around 10% of the value that is placed on your truck.

Grandmaster of the "Shade Tree" way.. I can't see the yard for all the cars. Come on down and we will sit on the porch and watch the grass grow.

In California at least, DMV will take your word for it if you are buying a vehicle with no paperwork.

They gave me plates and registration for a 5-year non-opped paperless vehicle on the spot in exchange for my signature and a note from the seller. New title showed up in less than a week. I was impressed how easy it was.

...They just charge you with perjury if they find out you're full of shit.

If title bond is needed you and by. that I do mean you have to get any liens that are shown in a title search released before they will bond them. Used to be they did it anyway here until a bank sued over it...

Every time I've title bonded one in MS, I just showed the insurance company a notarized bill of sale and it was good enough for them.

Recently? Because I have had to do my own legwork the last 2 times. I tried 4 different agents all told, and none would do it because the vehicles had a lien against them that were over ten years old. Neither lien was active, as the title was released when the prior owner paid them off, they just never sent the titles in to get the liens cleared. I bought one @ an impound auction, and the other from a body shop...

It's been a while. I called the insurance company I used to deal with about that Volkswagen I bought and they told me it hadn't changed. I haven't actually done it yet for this one as the previous owner has fallen off the face of the earth. The last one I did was probably 12 years ago.

Let me know how it goes if it does show a lien. I may have to start road tripping...

When I bought from a police auction they gave me a "title" that I just showed the tax office and they transferred it into my name just like a normal title is done. County Tax office is where we get our title transfers done on everything. When I renew my plates I go there.

I just went to the Texas state site and they posted

Note: If records indicate that the vehicle has a lien that is less than 10 years old, the surety bonding company is responsible for ensuring that the lien has been satisfied or released.

Not a lot of foot work.

To tie a couple of posts in this thread together, there is a post about a truck with A/C that i was after. I never got it, although the 5 times it changed hands, I was supposed to be the first one called. The guy that has it now (Low mileage, and REALLY rusty) has a second running truck without a bed on it. The 10 year old has claimed the truck as his own.3 years ago, his son (who was 10 at the time) saw this truck, and wanted to buy the bed. That was never able to come to pass. I stopped by last week to check on trying to score both trucks, but they are not for sale. The owner has a daughter who is a Junior in High School, that wants the A/C truck. The son still wants the bed for his truck. This one should help them get both together, Sooo... I gave this one to them...
