Well, after 14 years of sitting, figured it was time to start getting back in the garage and trying to get her back into show condition again with a new facelift and probably a V8 this time (like I should have done the first time  ), so the teardown has started.
Instead of posting pics, I am just going to link my webpage.

http://www.chevymetalhead.net/trucks/luv/rebuild.htm

Of course now it is 10 below outside with no sign of major temp increase for a while so it might put me on hold for a bit.
Anyway, feels good to start working on it again, but I do have some pretty good rust issues to deal with (Yea! I get to work on my welding skills!)

8) Glad to see you gettin' in there again. I'm surprised to see the rust on a truck that has basically just been sitting in the garage for years.

Yea, me too, sort of, but I am thinking when I had the truck painted in 88, the guys who did it (roommates brother), just kind of "covered" the bad spots, it was pretty rusty when I was driving it daily back in the day, they replaced the rocker panels as they were pretty bad and I figured I would have issues with it down the road. But looking at the spot on the passenger fender with it off, the water gets in that brace and has nowhere to go, so it rusted from the inside out.

Wow, I am shocked to see this much rust on a truck well cared for.

Anybody ever removed these braces?

I see welds on the back half of it but looks like it might be spot welded in the front. Got to get it off to fix it right.
Also thinking of cutting the clip off the firewall like Wicked did, to make cab removal and V8 install easier.

Cool, thanks for the link Karl, I had forgotten about zelda64man doing that, that will help a lot (looks like I have a lot of drilling to do). As for the plans, I keep changing my mind, I was going to go all out for the longest time (suicide doors and stuff like that), but decieded to keep it pretty simple. The only definate plans right now are 1 solid color (still not sure which color and probably keep it a secret till I paint it, was going to go charcoal till I got my charcoal silverado), 350 with a new rear end (chromed stock axle has got to go), weld up the bed seam, find some wheels that tuck to go as low as I can, a newer style fuel door, leather interior and finally get that dam flex-thru installed.
Keeping the air dam and going to get the rear bumper rechromed and ditch the louvered roll pan and still on the fence about the visor.
What do you guys think? Keep it or ditch it?
ps, the updates will probably be far and few, I wish I was as ambitious and skilled as Wicked Mayhem (and had his weather)!!!

Ditch the visor, reinstall the smooth rear bumper, I thought the roll cage kept you from the flex thru window. I say since you are redoing it, slap a 9 inch in it for ease of gears and any updates to power, that rear end is a install and forget about it forever.

It finally got back to 0 today with about of 6" of snow on the ground, I would trade for your weather in a heartbeat (minus the humidity), it hasn't been 60 here since September. Went out in the garage for about 5 minutes and said F that and plopped back down in front of the computer, do have a few body parts on the living room table doing bodywork on them :ebiggrin . (guess one perk of being single)
Sounds like the visor is a no go so far (which I figured, which makes MORE welding). The side tilt bed is what kept me from using the flex thru, yep, will be on the look out for a 9" and some V8 mounts. Still debating about shaving the door and tailgate handles.
So next question (feel like a noob now, been on here 10 years and am finally starting to ASK questions), anybody know any chrome shops somewhat close to me? There are suppose to be one or two in Billings MT but I cant find them, the only other one I know is Denver Bumper in Denver, which I might be going back there soon as my renter is wanting to buy my house (worth half of what I owe) or move soon, so hopefully I dont get in a bad finacial situation and put all this on the backburner again. Question 2, off topic, anybody know anything about short selling a house or foreclosure??

Basically a short sale the house is bided on, your bank would have to accept it, I have had many friends do this and if it goes through then your credit rating is safe. I say if he is already in it try it with him, the banks are slow to respond, like 3 to 4 weeks.

I just did this, I had the buyers offer on 06/11/2012 original closing was to be 08/12/2012, and we finally closed on 11/06/2012. Their bank would want something signed, then my bank would wait until closing day to decide they either didn't like it, or wanted something in return...

So do you get stuck with the balance? My problem is I have an interest only loan with a 2nd, and no equity in the house.

Usually not. Banks finally figured out that if a house is left vacant it will get trashed and it would be worth less then a short sale.

Thats what I was hoping for, should I contact a realtor or the bank first? As for my credit score, I could really care less if it is affected, all my 820 rating did was get me in this mess and I see people with no credit living way better lives than me.

A realtor is your best bet, most are well versed in short sales.

I hope a mod does not flame us for being off topic, sorry to the op.
