I posted an intro somewhere around here quite a while ago, I mostly hang around isuzupup.com, but I've been reading up here quite a bit lately. Thought I might as well show off my luv. It's a slow work in progress right now

This was how I got it, paid $500

The motor blew up a couple months ago (one reason not to tie the radiator to the core support with old shoe laces and bailing twine and then fly through a mud hole  ) Was overheated multiple times and the compression ended up being 120 on #1, 60 on #2, 40 on #3 and 120 on #4. The new motor came out of an 81, so I've got the electronic ignition now woo hoo. threw some other stuff on it like msd coil, brand new 32/36, header, and a w/s washer bag outta 1970s ford truck. Thinking about an offy intake... :P

The outside is the same, I'm putting the body work and paint off till next summer. Right now I'm working on coating the frame and under body with Hammerite. I went and picked up a new straighter bed from some nice folks a few weeks ago, just got the underside done last night

After the frame is done, time for some drive train fun

Right now I'm in the process of figuring out how to put these in....I'm a bit stumped :x

Any suggestions are welcome, there's no bracket for the factory radio or anything, it was wedged in there with a folded matchbook and some plumbers tape in the back so it didn't fall into the dash

mine isnt in there perfectly but i used a little frame around the radio with some tabs bent out to keep it centered, had issues with vibrating in there so i stuck a little bit of spare wiring underneath it to pad it.. thought about using those little rubber "bubbles" that you use to pad cabinet doors form slamming, to keep it from rattling,
that thing looks a lot better now thn before! under the hood looks great, how are you liking the weber/header/elec dizzy? i have the same setup other than the header

Might check with custom auto sound to see if they have a DIN kit to fit that hole. I found a radio with the kit in the JY and bought it just in case my next one has been butchered...

I was thinking of welding in the radio bracket, just like 2 little tacks in the back, that might work okay I guess, those brackets are pretty much universal anyways. I'll try looking for the custom audio thing, thanks. The weber dizzy and header work fantastic. I fried one ignitor though, I accidentally wired the power through the tach sender. I had never worked with a later 1.8 before  My favorite part is the weber though. I had some oddball weber on there before, its was a 32/34 DFT and had vacuum leaks all around the throttle shafts. The truck runs absolutely perfect now, even better than my 89 2.6! :D

It's been a while. Got it on the road about a month ago and been scooting around. The rear bumpers not done, just got the basic shape so I could put my whips and lic. plate on

Image

went and got a new yoter straight axle last weekend. Feels like the birfs are bad, one of the hubs is bad. Looking into the ifs hub and brake upgrade. Trailgear is going to suck my bank account dry with this one... :D The plan so far for the front is a 3 link with XJ coils, square drive line, six shooters, trunion eliminators, ifs brakes, possibly warn hubs- if not ifs, some knuckle gussets, etc. I'm mostly worried about the coil width on the passenger side and the placement of the panhard mount on the housing, I might need skinnier coils or man up and get coil overs :x Someday down the road an fj80 hp third and some dirty 30s

Image

More than likely the rear will be a v6, but if not a normal 4cyl will work fine.

Still in the measurement stage, we'll see where it goes from here

Well, time to get back at it. I let my LUV sit for waaaaay too long (I got distracted 8) )

Image

Anyways, I have a huge pile of crap sitting around that needs to jump off my work bench and bolt to my truck. But first things first, my 89 took a dump last week, so instead of fixing that  I'm making the luv a bit more bearable to drive. Before anything else gets touched right now this baby needs a way bigger alternator. Driving at night with wipers, lights, CB, extra gauges, fuel pump, etc. and the volts drop down to about 11v :ebiggrin PLENTY of power left for my ARB compressor, radio, winch....you know. Working on fabbing a mount to run a 94a 12si alternator, we'll see how this goes....I'll post some pics up when I get to it, I hate computers. But for those who care, a sneek peak :eugeek

You guys soo fuuunnny  Finally put a new head unit in so I can blare my death metal around town and make everyone hate me. Tried to install my new Flex-Thru and the seal for my slider was too big. We put the old slider back in afterwords and totally murdered my last good seal  My glass buddy is checking out one of those VW seals for me supposedly....Going junk yarding today, there's a guy out on the key peninsula somewhere with a stash of luvs so I hear, maybe I'll get lucky and find some trooper power steering goodies too. Also going to pick up some more sas parts. I scrapped the 3 link idea a while back, too much work for me right now, and I need this thing as street and budget friendly as possible. Going with toy rears up front and some exploder rear leaves. Scored a 8" toyota rear axle with ARB and 4.88 gears for $400 a few months back 8) Cutting and welding starts as soon as I get my GTI in paint.
