I picked up this Luv turned trailer yesterday. Its a little rough but all there. I'm thinking I need to lower it to match my 72. It has beefed up springs and the guy said he hauled 4 quads in it standing up. The tongue weight is almost neutral and it seems pretty balanced. So now if I need to haul anything massive I am set. 8)

At first I thought "why is the tongue so long?" But then I see that they incorporated the stock crossmember. There are cleaner ways to do the tongue and make it just as strong.
BUT! What I think would be pretty slick, take the rear bottom part of a junk cab and doors, and build a enclosed storage compartment out to about where the frame starts to angle in. 8)
Then of course lower it and paint to match your 72.

There used to be a big box mounted there. I was thinking of welding on another bed rear section with tailgate all welded up and smooth.

I think using another partial bed would look better than the half cab idea, but I think I would look at shorting up the tongue and try and get your neutral balance back. BUt any way you go with it, that is already a nice looking trailer.

UPS brought my new tailgate for the trailer today. I thought it was tan like the trailer but it is bare metal. 8O It must have been is a dry place because it has real light surface rust. Im a sucker for louvers and the trailer tg is pretty rough.

I also picked up a set of centerlines (3) that I thought matched my 76 but after I put them on the trailer I saw they are slighly different. The tires are way big but I will be looking for some low profiles to tuck and bring it back down when I lower it.

A little paint and I got the new tailgate on. Still looking for another bed to cut up or I may use the skin off the old tailgate on the front of the bed.

I got a piece of diamond plate for the tailgate and finished up the wiring today. Tows nice but bouncing all over. I think if it was loaded down it would be better.

I was watching this shell on craigslist for 3 weeks. It started at 200, when I called the guy he delivered it for 50. Its a little rough but not too bad.

I didn't know you got it that cheap. Hell, I would have bought it for $50, just to get my wife to ask, "What the hell is that for?"

I've got a couple parts LUVs that have a topper thrown on the back to cover a parts cache. Dry parts are happy parts. :) AND, parts out of sight are not as likely to draw wife/landlord/city junk ordinance attention.

Wow,I can't believe I missed this entire thread.
Here's my longbed trailer with topper.
Topper's a bit short but works for a utility/garbage hauler.

I've got the bed and frame from the 76 I wrecked sitting waiting for me to make enough time to do this. I'm wondering though, should I really go for neutral tongue weight or shoot for the balance a little bit forward? I have a shortbox, and not so up on trailers. I just had a bad experience once with an old 2 1/2 ton farm truck on a flatbed trailer, very tail heavy, very spooky above 25MPH. Negative tongue weight = not good.

I imagine with something as small as a LUV bed, weight isn't going to be a giant issue.

I'm sure someone will disagree, but the trailer manufacturers that I've talked to shoot for 10% tongue weight.

Cool trailer Ripper 8)

I think my trailer used to have a big box in front of the bed which would add some tounge weight. I am going to put something in front of that box eventually.

I lowered the trailer today with my left over blocks. I also put the 16" wheels on with some smaller tires. I am going to start grinding on it tomorrow to get it ready for some paint.
