I'm using the late model block because of the 1-piece rear seal, but im going to be running a mechanical flat tappet for a cam instead of a hyd. roller

Yep flat tappet cams suck. Just wait till one goes flat and destroys your perfectly good engine. Spend a little for a roller it will be cheap in the long run.

That thing looks great! What tranny are you going with? And what are you using for pistons?
I would go roller if at all possible, cut down every bit of friction you can. may not be a lot but that may net a couple hp on its own.
