In 1975 I bought a new Luv out of the local dealer lot. They had two, a red one and a blue one.
I bought the red one and a buddy bought the blue one.
The first picture shows my Luv in the lot next to my 1974 Bug that I also bought new.
I bought the bug in 1974, the Luv in 1975 and a Honda 550F Super Sport in 1976.
I still have the Luv and the bike! I have not bought a new anything since!

I had the truck for four years but frequest trips to Florida demanded a bit more power.
A little work under the hood and:

I created a very different truck!

It now has a Chevy 327 with a warmed up (B&M shift kit) turbo 350 tranny.
It also has a narrowed 12 bolt rear end with Summers Brothers axles with 308 gears.
Before I changed the rear the truck was a screamer with the stock 456 rear!
Trips, again to Florida, demaded hi way gearing. I've had it up to 140 mph!
I also cleaned up the dash with Auto Meter guages. They had an adjustable speedometer that could be dialed in.

The truck has been off the road since 1988 but I am planning a move (Retirement) to Florida so I have been attacking the truck recently to get it back on the road and the move to Florida. It needs a bit of work!

In case anyone was wondering about the blue Luv on the lot my buddy bought I have a couple pictures of that one too!

Image

He chopped the top! We made quite the pair driving around town!
He has since moved to Florida with the truck where it was totaled in an accident several years later.
He was waiting at a red light when he was hit broadside. The truck rolled!

Before then he repainted the truck black. It looks good in both colors!

Very cool story and truck . I had an 82 CB 900 F super sport and was always a big fan of the 1100 F with the little fairing . Cool you still have the truck after all these years / Bet it will be fun driving it again after 23 years .

I have been working on the truck to get it running for my move to Florida.
It hasn't been a piece of cake!
First no spark; simple fix.
Next, after a new Edelbrock 650 performer...no gas.
Replace the fuel pump and check all lines and replace filters.
Gas for a while then no gas.
Check things out and the tank is full of chit!
Drop the tank and sent it out for boiling at a radiator shop.
The guys says the top of the tank inside is rusted too and suggest an epoxy coat inside.
He's had it three weeks for two coats of epoxy. It's been cold here in CT and the epoxy is taking longer to set than anticipated. Still waiting for the tank but the truck fired right up and idled smooth!
I also swapped out the front drums for disc brakes. The swap was a piece of cake. No problems.
Surprised me all the brake lines were in good shape!
I replaced the master and booster too. Dot 4 fluid installed and bled all lines. I've got brakes again!
All lights worked and even the door alarm still worked!
While waiting for the tank return I've been compounding the body and waxing. Lot's of clean up to do after sitting since 1988!
Can't wait to get the truck back on the road! I miss the fun!

After I get the truck down to Florida I'm going to have to have the seat cover replaced with something nice and maybe the door panels too. The front bumper could use a re-chrome too! No rust but the chrome has crazed.
