So My Luv is in need of a little something. Not really as old as most trucks in the Rat rod Genre but at 33 yrs old,,,
So the plan is for a retro shop truck imposter. Our Local Chevrolet Dealer was in business here for decades and was bought out by a national chain years ago. So for all of us that grew up in that local HotRod culture that seemed to revolve around the Dealer and a few speed shops I decided to revive the old name address and Phone #. The plan is to have a local sign Painter do the logo's then buff them out to look old and faded. So what do you guys think?

OK finally got tired of messing around with the sign painters who wanted $100 to $150 and couldn't set a date or time wanted enlarged copy of the script etc etc, and went to the decal shop. Told the kid what I wanted(a stencil NOT a decal) showed him the art work he says $40 plus tax!
SHIT! Do it! So step one home to clean the doors with paint thinner. Step two apply the reverse cut sign on my doors. Step three spray a light coat of primer and let it cure about 20 minutes. Step four spray black enamel over the primer.
Now as soon as the paint is dry to light touch off comes the masking and the stencil/decal

Because most rattle can paint drys fast and hard, I gave it about 2 hours dry time and went to eat dinner. When I got home I took some medium cut Maguires rubbing compound and went to work. Here is why I used primer and then black, as you sand through the paint this gives a little additional depth to the sign, although it's NOT the period correct way to do it. So dock me concours points for cheating

I'll post some better pictures tomorrow when it's daylight.

Stock un molested tailgate

Apply reverse cut vinyl to desired area
Image

Mask and paint Primer first then black Paint

Next peel vinyl as soon as paint gets tacky

Once the paint cures about 45 minutes a quick work over with a rag and some medium cut rubbing compound will give you that old faded look. More pics tomorrow.

Yeah 915 area code used to cover from El Paso to west Texas area in the 60's to 90's. After 2000 they split the area and west Texas became 432. Broncho Chevrolet was bought out by a national chain (Lithia Auto Group) around then and kept the ph# but they have the NEW 432 area code, 915 was the original area code when the Dealer was open.

it's tomorrow

Man sorry guys I really owe everyone an update. Over the weekend I scored a nice set of Fenton aluminum slots and bought tires to get back to the 70's look. I'm headed out the the GoodGuys swap meet in Ft Worth this weekend hoping to score some caps and chrome lug nuts also. Maybe I can get a pic Thursday before I leave out

OK so I had to find some retro wheels to go with my retro truck

Here's a pic of the finished tailgate

So I'm headed out to the GoodGuys Car show and swap meet this weekend so I'm hoping to score some center caps for my mags and some other retro touches.
