There are so many 350s out there and they are so cheap. I've swapped a motor before but never done any real fab work. So, as a true beginner, would this be a challenge to big for a person of my intelligence (or lack there of)?

power by ace has all the parts to make it a fairly easy swap just take your sweet time. measure twice or even three time cant stress enough take your time. I would say if you are going to do it read as much as you can here. most of us have done at least 1 conversion. me I am working on my 3rd and I am still learning. some tips look at replacing rearend. the factory one will not last long and even shorter if you really get on it alot. a s10 rear end works good as I have read for me i use a ford 9in but I will use the s10 one on my 72. power by ace has a nice bolt in motor mount kit that removes alot of the guess work out of it. I have used his kit for my 74 and it bolted right in and the trans mount was the same bolt in and the motor and trans fit perfect first time. I must stress you really cant use hooker headers with this kit without major mods but he does have the headers that work great with the kit. again take your time dont just slam it together in a weekend. any other question just pm.

Its hard to judge your abilities from a computer screen. If you are asking us then I believe you are doubting yourself.

Ok. Found a motor out of a 69 Nova for $100 that's in good shape. Not entirely sure if it's a 283 or a 327. It was rebuilt 5 years ago but spent the last 4 years in field under a tarp. Anyway I grabbed it. Needs headers, carb, and tranny but you can't beat $100 deal. So here I go. Wish me luck

i got a deal like that recently :) my stock motor (g180) was a $100 craigslist find.. was a complete motor. brand new had been driven off the lot pulled and had a 327 dropped in its place. only it was disassembled partially and didnt have a crankshaft... so i have a motor/head/manifolds with about 5k miles on them, and a crank with 275k that was still in the factory spec + a weber and emissions delete 8) gotta love isuzu

69 nova.. just check the vin numbers on it and run them online should tell u exactly what it is. and what the stock power was. you can get a TH350 trans for next to nothing 7 days a week almost anywhere in the US just gotta look. good luck on your swap!

my big question would be are you building it to cruise in or are ya building it to beat up on others? i went with a 97 chevy 12 bolt rearend for my love. works really well. i went with the 383 stroker with a turbo 400 tranny. it has a 3800 stall from tci in mississippi. the swap wasnt really hard but ya do need to take your time. it took me around a month just to get everything right with the motor. i think the biggest headache was the radiator. not much room at all. i also recommend traction bars for the back. and go with a fuel cell. i just found it alot easier.

Do you have another vehicle to drive or is the LUV your only one?

Well, in theory, I want to get all of the gear set up and prepped to go in the LUV before I even start tearing into the LUV. Obviously it is not going to go as smooth as I will have planned so I'm expecting to have my baby out of commission for a month or so. I do have a 2001 Malibu that I can drive around but, coarse my emotional badge (the wife) will want it to lug the kids around (understandably I guess). So, that's why I want my stuff all ready to go before I take the dive.

What I want is fun cruiser that can fairly easily defend it's self against those spoiled teens and their wannabe race cars. I really want it to tear my face off but still take my wife out for a night on the town. Am I asking too much guys?

Yes, you are asking too much. If it is a daily driver, fairly mild v8 will be fun and dependable. You want to launch like a Pro Stocker, better get ready to do some spend um...

I have an S10 blazer with a pump gas 327 in it, flat tops, cam, intake Holley, etc. It is enjoyable, but it ain't no race car, of course, most of the ricers ain't either.

Maybe I could have worded that better. I have never had a ride that had more than 150 HP and even then that was governed. Basically, what I'm saying is, my face would be much easier to trear off than yours.

This egine looks so good. I'm not %100 how to tell if it needs rebuilt. I pulled the valve covers off and it looks basically brand spanking new underneath. I haven't pulled the oil pan yet so I haven't checked the barings. The guy said it was rebuilt 5 or so years ago and sat in his yard under a tarp for the last 4 years but you never really know what the truth is when dealing with strangers. How can I be sure it does or does not need to be rebuilt?

i look at it this way. if i install the motor and its bad i have to pull it out again and redo it. best thing to do is if you do not know the engine then go ahead and tear it apart and do a rebuild. best advise i can give ya on that one.

If you have never heard this engine run before it must be rebuilt.
