worked on my 76 swb today pulled the 4cyl yesterday and cleaned the bay. decided to take the plunge and go all madman :esurprised cut the front off making it a tilt frontend and set a sb chevy in it for size(my last v8 LUV was a 455) lookin to keep the cuttin to a minimum (fabricating is another story)
my basic idea is to remove the short bed and use my longbed, bed(from my other build)
cut it down and weld it unibody, then cut out the back of the cab(walkthru)
and cut off the roof.effectively making it like a 70s blazer fulltop convertible.
I also have a lwb fiberglass camper(on the longbed) that I will use as the basis for my fulltop. again copy the blazer. to a tee. I took a bunch of pics(I just need to figure out how to post em..lol

the driver side I cut the bodyline with the plasma (you gotta love the 4th state of matter lol)
and the down cuts were done with cutoff wheel(much cleaner/straiter) and if you noticed the pass side lower panel changed color,I had a wrecked fender with a nice lower, the dk blue fender was rusted/bondo/bent ect just on the bottom. hoping to finish cleaning up the mounting setup, for the lower panels this week. and thinking of smoothing the cowl vent into the hood assy. dont think i like the batwings hanging out there alone.

and as a sidenote I have already changed the front end over to disc brakes.the rotors/calipers w/brackets just bolted on.
does anyone know if the master cyl is diff?

This mod is on my wish list so thanks for the pics. That was a good idea to use for 2 bad fenders to make one good one. Keep the pics coming and any major issues you have along the way. 8)

BTW: I don't think that truck is a 76 because it has the bumper brackets welded to the frame. Unless they were added it is the a 75 or older. A 76 would have bolt on brackets for the bigger bumper.

Nice work, My engine is about 1.5 inches closer to the firewall so you should be able to slide it back some. I couldn't tell you if my firewall was clearanced or not but I do have the HEI distributor too so it can be done. As far as short water pumps go. The best one I have used is an early 60's Corvette style. The OEM ones were cool because they only had one outlet for the heater hose down low on the side. Aftermarket and newer versions have an extra water outlet on the top which ususally has a plug in it. The e-brake bracket and pivot arm were removed and never replaced on my truck so no e-brake so far but I have a plan to resolve that down the road. I don't know if you have seen this article but it is very helpful.

My firewall is un touched and core support is still there. It can fit without cutting.

Just looked at craigslist for Dallas but didn't see it. I was surprised what some people there think their truck is worth.

Hell if this was closer and $650 I would pick it up to fix up mine. Body looks solid.
