hey guys
just picked up a 76 luv i seen on the side of the road, id never seen one before and had to have it
the bloke i bought it off mentioned the site so i jumped on
i love minitrucks and have done a hilux before but it wont even compare to this because they arent to common out here and they realy are something special

its fairly rough the tub was rusted right through but the cab was fairly mint, the undercarriage and cab hav had rough spray and the 1.8ltr is running on 3 cylinders but shez a project

so far iv ripped off the tub and started planning a flat bed at work as im a welder/fabricator it wil intergrate the fuel filler and battery and some harley davidson rear mudguards stretched to suit a wheel arches
pulled out the bench seat and found some bucket seats that fit nicely

plan is :)
*get the running gear mint leave 1.8ltr as im on P's tidy engine bay move battery to tray
*strip, take the cab off, shave aerial hole and side indicators and smooth back of cab, fully spray cab and undercarriage
*convert from column shift to on the floor
*re-upholster interior and bucket seats
*put the flat bed on sink it down low
*chase up some caddy lights to lay sideways in bed and some hot rod style side view mirrors
*wheels- nothing bling just big with low profile tyres
*toyota disc brakes up front
*gas strut the bonnet
and lots more

biggest thing i need advice on is lowering this thing
i dont think i want bags because it wil b a daily and cruised every friday nite and i want it to handle
im thinking reset the leafs, shortened shocks, and compressed springs and shortened struts up front
you guys know these things tho i want it to sit very low but stil driveable so it doesnt hav to b raised to get into places.
i thinking somwhere around 80-100mm just under legal :D as iv found this gets everywhere round here if you drive it right

any advice would b aprriciated

here she is

gday mate, fellow aussie here, sounds like you've got big plans.

how much did ya pick it up for?

if you still have that tub would ya be willing to part with it?

are you sure its a 1.8? mines a 1.6 i think most of the aussie ones are.

im also converting mine to floor shift 5 speed. im using a gemini 5 speed and shifter, i have a complete conversion kit to suit a gemini that im going to modify.

just so ya know you can sourse alot of engine and gearbox parts for sites like OZgemini and the like.

im in gippsland, victoria mate, my tub probably isnt much better, but hey if i get something useable out of it then theres a win for me

i got my conversion kit from a mate who was going to put it in his im assuming her pulled it from a wreck.

uh yeah mate no coils up front torsion bar suspension you can wind them down to get it lower.

personally if you were going to do the swap id go for a later rodeo engine, if your planning to stick with a 4 cylinder and keeping it pretty basic.

swapping to a floor shift isnt hard just cutting a hle in the right spot for the shifter.

i havent really put much effort into looking at diffs, im looking to do a V8 conversion using a commodore driveline.

im not sure about that column shift to floor shift, one of my tradeschool teachers is an engineer so ill ask him next time i see him

being a 76 that would correct, long wheel base were later and the round lights were earlier.
