Everyone please note that the small block fits just fine with exhaust manifolds. I know people are in love with headers but for all except out and out racing, I think manifolds work just fine and as you can see they fit.

yes and no. that style yes. i went ahead and bought a set of used block hugger headers from a member here. couldnt pass up the deal. the style manifold that came on the 305 i am using would not fit as its not centered on the motor and exits the rear of the motor.

manifolds on my motor (i googled and took the first picture i saw)

Enough with the photoshop versions...

This weekend I removed the step bumper and relocated the license plate back to the stock mount. The stock license light was sitting there waiting to be hooked back up. Then I installed the 3" lowering blocks and got it low like a luv should be.

I also picked up a pair of steel wheels off of a Rodeo at the junkyard with some decent 225.75.15's on them. I took them for a cruise and I would guess that the luv would purr at 80mph with them on. It really brought the RPM down on the engine and smoothed eveything out. I swapped back to the 14's after I lowered it for the maximum lowering effect though. The steel wheels have good backspacing and tuck up inside the bed nicely. The tires are a bit taller than I would like to run though.

Looking good! I like the rear of a 72 the best with the 4 big round tail lights. Probably because I have one, and because it's sort of reminiscent of a Corvette.

I guess I don't know which exhaust manifolds do fit, but it looks like some variant of the ram's horn style should. Or even the log style i.e. on 80s Chevy pickups.

Do it! it will look great, but you have to be real careful backing up. I couldn't get that rusty old step bumper off quick enough.

The luv has some really great lines and the bumper takes away from it. I am contemplating taking off the front one too, but I want to retain my sleeper look as much as possible.

I have been polishing for a week now and it has been slow going. The hood is by far the worst but the shine is coming around. Also I picked up the dash cover I had made with no cut outs, just a smooth cover. It looks better that the cracked dash cap that is under it.

Just over 6 weeks and the shine is back. I found a great deal on a Meguiars DA polisher which made it way easier to get the oxidation off of the paint. Now I need to wax it up.

I also discovered when I went to remove the LUV emblems off of the fenders that they are not factory emblems at all. They are solid aluminium castings from a stock emblem and were screwed on from the back. They will polish up pretty good and I may put them back on. I talked to to prior owner and he confirmed that he had made them in high school in a foundry class. I also swapped out the grille emblem and took off the big yellow bowtie for something a little more to scale.

Also picked up a 70 Camaro gas pedal assembly so I can remove the threaded rod throttle linkage and put a cable on it.

Its hard to keep focused on just building a driver to go to Home Depot in when I see all of the awesome builds on this site. The V8 just screws with that whole idea, this thing is so much fun to drive!

Found a 74 Mikado at ecology center and I snagged the stainless from the doors and rain gutter.

You are a lucky man, Luv's in that condition are hard to find. That's one nice ride.

Thanks for the kind words guy's. I was a little worried when I first got it because I thought it was pretty rough, but it has really worked out pretty good. I think it has been parked much of its life and doesn't have the wear and tear like most Luvs have. :)

I saw a V8 Luv at the donut shop last weekend and he had an aluminium shroud over the radiator, so I thought I would give it a shot.

I spent another day on it today. I replaced the threaded rod with a throttle cable too.

I'm starting to dig playing with sheet metal. I finished my first door panel today, then did a quick glove box cover. The speedo will be harder to pull off.

I finished up the drivers door panel, then hit the junk yard and scored a set of Accel 8.8 wires for $8 which cleaned up nicely. I'm a sucker for yellow wires. I also found a Mikado with a decent set of blue seat belts and a perfect ashtray with lighter.

I picked up some chrome bezels on craigslist and shined them up. The chrome under the paint was in great shape.
