Looking good. Looks like the 76 will not be just a parts truck but a runner one day.

I wish that was the case but I am cherry picking all the good stuff off the 76 for the 72 and will be parting the rest. I can't swing 2 trucks the way things are going and just want to make the 72 as good as I can make it. Once I get the 9 inch finished I'll be breaking down the 76. I am going to keep a lot of it though.

The 76 has great parts on it, damn California smog laws. At least we can still see some of the truck that started this site.

I did some franken welding today putting the brakeline brackets on. I haven't been welding long and it shows. I have to make a new brakeline for the driver side. The old one was routed where the gas tank sits. I might make a new one for the other side too since i will have the tool.

Welding next to the gas tank is a trip

I got the brakelines in and wrapped the wiring all the way to mid cab, I will do the rest when I swap the motor. When I mocked up the driveshaft it is indeed too long and will need to be shortened about 1.5 inches. It was all set up for the 4.3 that was in the 76 which I assumed would fit but doesn't. My old driveshaft could probably work if the flange for the diff was swapped for a u-joint but the new driveshaft is a larger diameter and much beefier. I usually don't start a project in winter as they tend to drag on due to getting dark at 5 and rain. I have never had a garage to work in so its all done in the driveway. I am so ready to be finished!

Got my driveshaft back and had the tires swapped over. The guy at the tire store told me my T/A radials are $150 a piece now. 8O I didn't have anyone home to help bleed the brakes but I am closing in on a road test.

I left the 1/4" wheel spacers on and am happy with the frame clearance. it looks like the tires will tuck nicely too

The weather was great and I got to drive it today. I was worried with the freeway gears it wouldn't light them up as easy. That won't be an issue. Drove down and put in some fresh gas, it rides very different with the lighter springs. I'm going to go over every nut & bolt and put the ebrake cables into the cab then put the stepside bed on.

I got the front tires put on the centerlines and cruised around some. The front tires are a bit small and I am thinking a 215 or 225 with these wheels. It squats right down when you romp on it. The traction bars work for sure. I had a vibration on the freeway at 60+ and tightened the driveshaft bolts when I got home. RPM is down 400/500 at freeway speed with the 3.0 gears which is awesome. Today I sanded and painted the back of the cab and bled the brakes again. You can't beat the weather 85 in January. 8)

Still 6 lug, I don't remember where those rotors went? That was a while ago in luv years.

I started with white spokes, then some steelies, a set of champ 500's that didn't fit followed by some outlaw II's that were traded off before going on. I lucked into the weld knockoffs from Fabian which are my favorite ones. I have looked for months on CL for a pair of 5 on 5 Draglites to put on the 9 inch but no luck. 5x 4.25 or 5x 4.75 are everywhere. I'm going to keep the welds and I will find a pair eventually. The Centerlines remind me of billet GM rally's a bit.

I got the stepside bed on today and the 55 Chevy tail lights. I'm going to find some c channel to put behind the diamond plate bumper cover. The fender bolts I bought were too big and the exhaust hits the bottom of the fenders. I'm going to cut the ends off and put down turn ends on. When I was mocking up the fenders it looks like I have room for 15x10s, the rear is so tucked in. The 245 60's looked small.

Bill the cat is not long for this world. He already got a columbian necktie and has his tongue sticking out of his throat.

Hotrod, I was lucky to score the 76 from Karl and distance was probably the main reason. It is the Luv that keeps on giving. I'm glad you were able to find some local Luv's to do your magic on. 8)

It was mine years ago. I got it from a truck I saved in North Hollywood.

Awesome day to wrap it up. Its a running driving truck again and not a moment too soon. It was about a 3 month job for and old fart to accomplish. Now I am going to take a break and rest up for the engine swap.

No not really, the bed grew on me after a while. When I picked up the little bumper I liked it more. Then I came across the tail lights. I may switch back later but I had to try it out while I had it. I was grinding the glue residue from the carpet out of the inside of the bed yesterday.
