1953 Ford... That's the truck that my dad's been after rebuilding for so many years. Had it most of the way done, and then the shop burnt down around it... Everything but the cab burned, so it's still salvageable, but been quite the setback.
I'd really like to see one of those trucks finally being put together, so I'll watch your thread if you post one chevyluv1980.

The LUVlounge is for kicking back and relaxing. Besides, were trying to keep Ben gainfully employed! Guess I need to find the pics of adapting a Chevy 700R4 tranny to a small block Ford 302.

one more thing if you do decide to for sure run the 700r4 make sure you buy and aftermarket reaction shell, that is the most common spot to fail on those transmissions, ive changed shells already. 4l60e is also bad about the shells going bad. you loose 2nd overdrive and reverse when they shear or strip. ive seen one strip the rest have sheared.

What is a reaction shell? I saw those kits and they are pricey. My tranny hook up was under $50 and did require using a lathe for a new torque converter button.

The reaction shell is also refered to as the sun gear or planatary. It's casing is really thin on the factory ones. It's the most common fail point on those trans.

Crap. I had the tranny rebuilt while I was in Las Vegas and wish I had known then. It has yet to be used. What is the difficulty changing it myself?

well basic tools except a torx plus size 50 i think, a reagular torx bit will strip them out. the first time i did it i read a how to article i found from google. if you just had it rebuilt i wouldnt worry about it unless you plan on alot of power. its a common problem on internals with over a 100k usually. i just assumed you was using a used one. a transmission rebuilder would be fimaliar with the 700r's problems and would have checked it out. im not a transmission man by anymeans, im just stobborn and refuse to pay 2500 for a rebuild, so i learned the hard way of how to do it. ill try any thing mechanical at least once before i pay to have it done.

Don't plan on LOTS of power, but would eventually like to hit 250 hp. Maybe 300! Thanks for the info.

Yea. I'd say it would hold 325 350 with out a problem.

I ordered summit brand drag cell. It's a 12 gallon bottom sump. And an inline Carter pump that is a replacement for the 1.8 luv. All from summit. And I'm mounting the cell in the bed against the cab.

Well guys it didn't go as planned this past weekend. Didn't get it home. I forgot to order the two an 8 fittings to plumb my cell up. And no part store around here has even heard of them lol. And now getting the fittings will be delayed another 2 weeks because I had a blow out on my daily blazer Sunday morning. So I'll update with new pics and it in my garage in two weeks. Damn this sucks.
