Bought my first luv in 1987. Had to sell it because of baby and California's smog rules. Previous owner had stripped all smog equipment off, so I chose to sell it.

Missed it so much, that I bought a 1977 around 1996. It sat and sat because DH and I didn't know where to start and it seemed so overwhelming. My daughter's boyfriend said, "I'll help you sand it" So away we went. Garage and front yard paint job. Single Stage urethane. We did get the interior painted as well. Old herculiner topped with Rust O Leum bed liner in the bed. Rust O Leum bedliner in the interior floor. I still need to get engine overhauled, but that will have to wait until we have garage space to work in. Not sure what kind of paint details to add. Learned alot in the painting process. Still need to get new dash, headliner, sunvisors, carpet kit, shift boot and all engine work. It runs good for a tired old engine and pass's smog.

Need to figure out something for the lights. I don't like the current setup.

Top of the door weatherstripping channel.

I used this weatherstripping #990021 from Restorationspecialties.com. Don't forget the adhesive. I ordered 24 feet and had a little over 2 feet left over.

Bad pic, but finished door seal

Someday I will do a body off restoration, but for now, it's not bad.

Thanks!!

A few things I've learned in the painting process.

Sand, sand and sand with the correct grit sandpaper
Wet Sanding is your friend
NEVER skip a grit thinking it will save time
Masks are a pain in the butt, but sanding dust gets in all exposed orifices. I think I am still snotting bright green
When you think it's smooth and ready for paint, you're wrong. Another 5 hours of sanding and bondo are needed.
Even though the package said 1000 grit was good for last sand before paint. They lie!
Buy twice as much masking tape as you think you will need
Mask off everything you don't want painted or repainted. Overspray goes everywhere
Having another set of good eyes to help point out missed or thin spots during painting is priceless

People who check out your first paint job and say "you shoulda....." need to Shut the Heck up!

Well put!
Nice truck. The green is not my favorite color, but I drive a Peterbilt at work that's about the same green, so I am pretty used to it. :D
It was a popular color in the early 80's. My sisters boyfriend drove a Chevette that was bright green way back then.

Totally understand. It was a very close decision between this green and osha orange.
