Registration has it as 1980. Front lights from prior year?
VIN in drivers door jamb is CRN14A8245287
VIN on frame in front of fuel tank is CA8245287
VIN on cowl on cab is CA8245287

Maybe someone switched the inner fenders and radiator support to install quad lights?
Inner fenders and radiator support are blue under the black in the scratches.

Previous owner said he traded his 2wd Luv for it. Said it had been rebuilt but will not turn over.
He said maybe the caps are on wrong or the rings are too large. What do you guys think of that?

CRN14A82 is a 1980 4X4. Don't know why the rest don't have the CRN but wouldn't worry about it. The 4 headlamp system is a direct bolt on as you can change between the 2 and 4 headlamp systems with out any changed to the core support. As far as the engine, I would pull it apart and inspect, I bet more then one problem is found.

Thanks for info... We did pull the engine today and looked at the caps. Looked fine to us.
The cylinder numbers on the cap and rod were aligned. I suppose the pistons were installed the right way.
Will pull the head and pistons next time and see what's going on. Cannot turn crank.

Removed head and pistons today. Piston and rings ok. Crank seized.
Turns free now that the caps are loose.
Removed crank caps... Shows signs of wear & scoring.
Not good at all.

sounds like a trip to the machinist may be on your future, could be a lot worse for a $550 truck

Have been researching this G180 rebuild. The question is Thrust Bearings/Washers.

These are not supplied in rebuild kits? Have not found anything like these in this G180.

Please give some insight on this and anything else that I need to be aware of in this rebuild.

The thrust bearings help locate the crankshaft laterally in the block? Takes up the slack so the crank doesn't slide?
Set of 10 thrust bearings are needed? This is the first time dealing with the crankshaft.

Since no local machine shop can turn crank, opted to order reman crankshaft kit with main & rod bearings plus thrust washers from Crankshaft Rebuilders thru Autozone for $153. Also ordered a re-ring kit for $111 & a clutch release bearing for $18. Now the reassembly of the G180 has begun.

Motor is back together and in the truck. Did get it to run after some work.
No fuel would pump from the fuel tank so we pumped from a gas can.
While at idle checked timing and it was at 6 degrees. Got it to run fair at higher RPM. But dies out a lot.
Does carb need rebuilt or cleaned up?
Coolant leaking out of intake under carb. Is there small freeze plugs in the intake that can be replaced?
Need to remove fuel tank and see about the problem. Must be plugged.

The OEM filter is mounted up on the side of the tank next to the frame, I would check that before dropping the tank. You can see the filter by looking above the frame. At least on the 2wd. My 4x4 is long gone.

Looks like a nice truck.

We pumped fuel from the gas can thru the filter so it's not the problem.

My son and I removed the fuel tank today. Lots of crud removed from inside tank. The bottom 2" of the supply tube in tank was plugged. Opened up supply tube & freed up the fuel level mechanism and rinsed tank out. Reinstalled tank and now it pumps gas to carb.

Runs rough & backfires when starting, must need to adjust valves?

Does anyone know where I can order freeze plugs for the intake manifold?
