Bought the truck about two weeks ago. 1975 Chevy LUV! Pretty good price for something that actually runs. One of the front brake slave cylinders is shot but that will be an easy fix. This build has been in idea form for about 6 months. My friend and I, both named Ben (wierd), had the idea of building a small truck with a BIG engine. I've got a 1978 Datsun 620 but I have to smog it so no engine swaps for that one. Probably will be sold soon anyway, to finance this new project.
The plan is to bore and stroke a 350ci to a 383ci and put a Ford 9 inch in the rear. Took about a week to get the truck to my house from Elk Grove. I thought I was going to be able to use my boss's trailer but my dad's truck was giving us problems so we just got it professionally towed by one of Ben's friends.

This past weekend go the truck on jack stands to figure which brake cylinder is leaking. Pulled the rear bumper, front bumper, front valence... Then on saturday Ben and I went over to a friends house to pull a 12 bolt rear end and Turbo 350 auto trans from a 1975 GMC truck. Crazy productive day pulling all that stuff, and fun but it was rough being in the sun and heat for four and half hours. And then off to work in a hot pizza parlor. UGH!

Yeah it was a great find! One major thing though is the passenger side floor boards are rusted completely through. That really is the only main issue to fix thats really drastic. Thanks for the luck and I will try to keep this post up to date.

The 9 inch was actually in our first idea but we were able to get the 12 bolt, turbo 350, drive shaft and some extra rims and tires for $150. What a steal. All we had to do was pull it ourselves. The guy we got it from has experience in building LUVs and a ton of other muscle cars and all he wanted from the donor 75 GMC was the stock 350ci. He is going to bring the truck to a metal scraper and get money per ton so he actually made better money from us. And he was also super excited to be involved in our project too. Up here everyone knows everyone; his daughter was in my high school graduating class. Its awesome to have so much help and friends up here. We are going to have a guy we know actually do all the welding, shortening, and narrowing of our major parts: rear end, drive shaft, and we are thinking about a 4 link rear suspension. Have to get a quote from him.

Thanks. Grass Valley and Garden Valley? Thats pretty close. Its an awesome place to live, but when I was younger and didn't have a truck, it sucked because all your friends lived too far away. Riding a bike to their house was a chore, up hills and took forever! Better now that I've got wheels. Haha! If you're ever up here, let me know and I'll give you a chance to see the progress on my LUV and I can pick your brain on the stuff you know.

Thanks,
And more to come,
Ben

Yeah its been pretty fast getting all these major parts. I just hope it stays at this pace and I can keep the money flowin. Nothing more of a bummer when you have a project going and having a blast and the only thing stopping you is money and time.
I guess patience is a virtue. I think I might have to work on that one. :D
Catch ya later,
Ben

I flew into Grass Valley today. Dropped a friend off so he could continue gold mining with his dredge. I will say I am not a big fan of the airport there.
