I am looking to get some ideas on gauge layouts. Driving my LUV I found the steering wheel blocks my view of two gauges and turn signal indicators. I was thinking about moving them above the radio spot and installing a speaker in the old instrument cluster location and glove compartment. Pics would be great.

A speaker in the panel may look weird, idk maybe its just me.
How about taking your steering wheel off and turning it a bit so you can have a better view while your driving your luv straight down the road?

Funny! Very Funny!
I could also just scoot down a bit and lean over to the right and see EVERYTHING and be cool!
Ah you youngsters. :P
Anyway, I have seen many dash's with no gauges in it, but rather doen the center in a console quite similar to bagged79's. Being or doing something different is part of what customizing is all about. Sticking a speaker in there can look unique, or crappy, depending on your point of view. I applaude bagged79 on his talents and ability to bring so many variables (and in my opinion far too many for me to have handled), and have what amounts to completing nothing short of 'incredibly fantastic.'
I am leaning towards just having the speedometer in the original cluster location and placing the smaller guages on top of the dash, near the windshield, over the radio area. This will allow me to see everything, especially engine monitoring at a glance. Plan to mock it up and post pics once I complete some more damn VA paperwork.

That actually sounds pretty good. Mock it up and show us some pics :ebiggrin

you could use an old mustang long style speedo then put your oil water and volt where the radio was then put your radio in the glove box

I went simple, all stock. Hell, I hate gauges, if it blows it blows weather I have a oil gauge or not. I could use a tach but I like the stock look in both of my LUV's. Some say it's stupid but it's just my taste.

So many ideas, but I need to keep it a bit simpler. This is what I will probably do. This is a styrofoam mock up of a "pod" showing the guages and I will put the high beam, turn signal indicators, parking brake light and seat belt light in it also. As soon as I get some epoxy resin I will laminate it up and then cover the pod with the same material I'm covering the dash with. Also will have a little sun visor over the gauges. The pod will be fastened from underneath and be removable should maintenance be needed. Pic taken from drivers view.
