Why did you pull the cab to install the engine??? Looks like you are doing alot of unneccesary work. Do you have a plan for the truck. I did mine and had it mapped out so I would not be duplacating work. Why do things twice. That is also why I asked you what type of rear end you had planed. Do you know what size tires you want to run????

:signiagree

I'm with him on planning. E.g., one of my ultimate goals is to put A/C in my LUV. But to do that, I have to do the following things, in roughly this order:

-Eliminate stock air cleaner, replace with open element,
-Rebuild carburetor so the truck will run well enough to have AC,
-Eliminate smog pump and smog equipment to mount the AC compressor where the smog pump was (notice I had to take care of the air cleaner before this),
-Find A/C compressor and fab a bracket (no point in doing that until I do the above)
-Dynamat the interior,
-Replace interior/door weatherstripping,
-Replace cracked windshield and old grommet,
-Block off/make manual louvers for the fish gills in the back of the cab,
-Fortify cooling system by having radiator recored to three row and adding 5 blade flex fan,
-don't forget to add a bigger alternator (GM 10si 63 amp)

Then, and only after all that crap, would I even consider ordering a condenser, dryer, evaporator, and whatever actual AC parts I need. It won't pay to buy all that stuff and install it now because the truck won't run, it'll overheat, and I'll waste any cold air I do get because of bad weather stripping.

YMMV, and I decided to put in $0.03 because hopefully that is not yet worthless because of inflation.

Start planning. How would you know what gears to run without knowing tire size, stall converter, cam etc.

unless you are planing on tubbing bed and narowing the frame to fit a big tire 373s are the way to go they are good for cruzing around and if you do want to get up and go they will do that to. but if you do go with a big tire 411s or 436s or 456s depending on what you are doing with the truck

You may have forgot a few things

Gasket set
hoses
belts
fluids
driveshaft
misc fittings

I can go on forever then miss a few things that Hotrod 80 would have to fill in. He is correct on the X2 for the price. Trust us, we have been there, done that and had to explain it to our wives.

1600? thats it? like others said.. itll still be more than that with all the nickle and dime things..

i did some very rough figuring for the big things i need to be driveable.. and it came to 6k.. and then i still need to buy a rebuild kit for my 5.3, maybe tranny rebuild, stall.. then i will have to buy another set of tires n wheels.. the ones i want are around 2k for just wheels.. then paint and body work..
