I've been wanting to start another 4x4 project for some time now...Last month while cruising craigslist I stumbled across a 1980 Luv 4x4 for sale locally for 750 dollars. I called the seller to discuss the vehicle, and told him in the described condition, I'd only be willing to give 400 bucks for it. He said that was fine, sweet i thought :) .

I went and checked the luv out the following day, and it was in pretty rough shape... supposedly ran, but had no battery so I couldn't find out, someone had shimmed the steering column down and added aftermarket seats, I couldn't even fit in the truck!

I then told the guy that in this shape, 275 was all I could spare, and as you should know by now, he took my offer. I bought a running 4wd truck for $275! Then I found about about this website. I want to builld a solid, CHEAP, DD that can be offroad friendly as possible. Due to the light weight of the LUV Im going to attempt to build a snow bashing rig out of it, hoping to be able to float over some powder!

Here's what I started with...

Im going with a flatbed because I wont have hardly any cargo, so my stepside with fiberglass fenders is for sale...

I then bobbed the bed down right behind the rear spring mounts, the shorter the better off the pavement!!! (plus that weight thing again)

I then pulled the swaybar , since this truck will only be driven slow speed around town, and offroad prowess is a higher priority. I used the good ole floor jack to grab some poser shots to keep you guys going til the next round of work and pics!

Front end flex

And the rear

Next will be an ignition upgrade and then pulling out all the gasoline crap and installing my propane system. Thanks for any comments and/or suggestions!

Nick

That'd be awesome, well if I cant sell it quick the lady is gonna make me throw it away! HAHA Best offer, or trade for ???

So I broke one of the torsion bar adjuster bolts yesterday, and that was a pain in the ass but progress has been made today my friends! I got the T-bars cranked, which lifted the frontend about 2", cut down the super lame (and very heavy) front bumper, trimmed some of rusty and obsolete sheet metal, and tried to clean er up a little more.

Anyway, on to the new pics! The first is my favorite...

Stock for now, just with the tb's cranked as they sit now, Ill trim for 31's - 33's and run it, if/when i fall in LUV with it, I can invest in the yota front end!

Know anyone looking for a stepside bed in, or close to, the beehive state?

Nice, I just picked up an '80 4x4, but you beat me on price. I though I got a smokin' deal at $400 lol. I'm going to be slowly building mine for a trail/hunting rig. I wish you lived closer to WA, I'd love to have that stepside bed, color even matches!
