Yep about the same for me only mines the girlfriend
But its gettin done. Having my dad helping out when im over there lot of the time makes it much easier to get it done
Should be going sometime this month i hope. Would be nice to have it before its summer.

Got the exhaust tubing, bends, y pipe muffler etc found and in my cart on summit just need to place the order
Im excited to finally hear it run. Been a year since i parked it and pulled the lil four banger.

I don't know if its worth it or not to you but I took mine to midas and had them do it. Cost me about 650. If I bought the parts it would have been around 220. They always mark up their stuff. He charged me like 100 bucks for the flow masters each. You can buy them on summit for 70. I also had him use alumnized pipe instead of gal so that was a little more. The difference is I just didn't want to spend that much time welding and cutting. It;'s really a pain for me. I think the pulleys you have set up actually look pretty good. Kind of a modern theme in an old wrapper!

Im making mine at home. Buying a few sections of straight pipe a few mandrel bends a y pipe and a flowmaster all together around 250 everything included all aluminized tubing to save money cuz i am broke

I am starting to like the pulleys and brackets more now that i see it all together. Little paint and i will probably like the setup. The tensioner is a real convienent perk

Alright lots of good stuff goin on today
Started off with the brackets and pulley situation. A member on s10forum gave me the idea to swap the idler for the ribbed tensioner pulley and it was much easier/cleaner. Painted the bracket, tensioner etc cleaned up the alt and got the belt
Image

I think it looks pretty clean
Image

Then got the header mod going on. Needed more trimming at this point

Image

Image

Finished welding it. Brushes in my grinder are trashed so i couldnt grind the welds down on the outside yet. It clears the steering shaft great now
Then got to the radiator mounts. Not done with them but got them ready to weld in. And used some random old rad hose as a rubber cushion

Image

Image

Then used my paint stripper to clean up the cab. Still needed to scrub the rest of the paint here.

Image

Bam bedliner. This was before i pulled the masking tape so the edges look sloppy

Image

Image

Also sealed and installed the intake, torqued the rocker arms and mounted the remote oil filter and ran the linesm need to mount the oil filter bracket still.

Nothing real exciting today had a few hours of free time so i got the hood stripped of all paint and the bit of bondo i found on the front i need to try to smooth out the metal and use less filler
Went along and soldered all the crinped and twisted electrical connections i could find and made a bracket to kount my power center where the stock coil was and using the stock holes. Mounted the horns. Lots of kisc odds and ends nothing major.

alright got my exhaust components ordered. got a couple sections of 2.25" aluminized pipe, and one 4' piece of 3" aluminized pipe, flowmaster super 44, flowmaster #Y214300 y collector 2x2.25 in 1x3" out, a 4.5" radius 2.25" dia, 180* mandrel bend so I can cut it into a few smaller angles to get where I need to be, a 3" mandrel bent slant cut turndown, and a bottle of compcams break in additive just to be safe. should have that all by mid next week, going over to my moms to work on the radiator mounts and the wiring some more. found out I am gonna be a dad so I really gotta get this thing knocked out like last week
wiring is mostly done already just need to hook up the trigger wires from the relays to the ignition switch and wire up the alt/battery connections

Yeah man i have heard that at least a half dozen times
Putting in another full day tomorrow and two more days off next week going into overdrive mode trying to get it done. The exhaust will take a good day on its own to do right. Tomorrow is going to be mostly fixinf loose ends mounting radiator, power center, battery fittings and hoses etc so when the exhaust is finished it should be ready to fire up.
Really excited about both right now so its looking to be a good week.

Cant wait to be back on the road for summer :ebiggrin

Funny thing is I was at a fly in today and Rondog just happened to be in the area and stopped in for lunch. I was telling another pilot that I built my truck in under a year and modified about every part of it. I spent a lot of time and money on it, but after kids I think I have washed and waxed it maybe 5 times, Rondog agreed.

Lol im sure there is going to be a huge shift in my priorities in the next few months. Already worried about how im gonna make enough to cover everything. Should be an experience lol
What do you think about homemade slapper bard or even a homemade caltrac system? I have found writeups for both and there is no way that stock axle is going to put the power down effectively and it may be a whole before i can get a 8.8 built

My day got cut short today but we got the radiator mounts made,
trimmed down the sides i cut out from beside the radiator and got them painted and ready to weld in so there is no gap around my radiator and i have the stock shroud bolt holes left to make support brackets with.
Ground down the welds on my header
Mounted my oil filter bracket
And worked on where to mount the clutch master cylinder, looks like its gonna end up inside the firewall with the tip sticking out so the resovoir and lines arent at risk of leaking inside the cab

Getting there one step at a time cant wait to fire it up. Exhaust tubing and such should be here wednesday :ebiggrin

picked up my exhaust flanges today and dropped them off, trying to come up with some ramps so I don't have to have the truck on 4 jack stands while working on the exhaust. doing a little body work on the hood and trying to get that smoothed out for primer and a quick qloss white rattle can job.
lots of little odds and ends to do this weekend so im sure I will forget a lot of them, should have the headers permanently on there, the exhaust laid out and a good bit of the exectrical system knocked out this weekend, really excited to be getting this close to finished 8)
going to need to grab a couple pairs of used rear tires  Im trying to find whatever the widest rear I can fit on these 14s is I cant seem to find bigger than a 215 for a 14" wheel other than offroad tires and I don't want that. trying to stay real close to the same diameter as the front which new was 25.5" something a little bigger for the rear would be nice 26" or so options are... with cost off tirerack
215/70R14 = 25.9x8.5R14 2 types $75-119
215/75R14 = 26.7x8.5R14 3 types available $63-86
225/70R14 = 26.4x8.9R14 only bf Goodrich t/a $119 a piece
245/60R14 = 25.6x9.7R14 only bf Goodrich t/a $143 a piece
225/70r14 seems like a good size for the money

alright didn't get to the exhaust system today but got a few other things done

got the sides of the support around the radiator welded back in now that they are trimmed to clear, painted them and painted the tabs below black again
Image

there is a rubber bumper on both sides to keep the radiator from bumping metal, I also trimmed the two folded up tabs that stick out vertically where the top of the radiator is resting against the top and put a rubber piece from a small conveyor belt over each for a little insulation and cushioning.
Image

and on the back I just found a couple tabs with rounded ends with holes bored thru them ran to ace and grabbed a couple rubber stoppers/corks and pushed them in, I need to trim the smaller unused side down but these hold it in place real well bolted to the holes on the piece I welded back in
Image

got the rust protectant paint stripped off of these and sprayed the vht black on them its still drying in the pics
Image

Image

went ahead and put them back on
Image

also picked up an oil filter, a pair of the flanges/reducers for my headers, and started making my mount for the oil filter bracket, going to be mounted on the back of the core support on the driver side, and will have a radiator catch can on the opposite side. have to find a different spot to mount my horns if I want to keep both.
back at it tomorrow, got a cut off wheel for the chop saw so I can cut the exhaust tubing more precise and get my angles right the first try. should be a more productive day, got pulled away from the truck a few times today.

alright so for today we decided that the collector flange I picked up wasn't going to be good enough for this so I ordered a pair of ball and socket flanges that will fit better. and since exhaust was ruled out of todays to do list we got after the rest of it.

radiator mounting was first on the list so we started off with a piece of conveyor belt rubber my dad had sitting around this stuff is tough as heck, was really hard to cut
Image

a quick shot of my lower mount cups for the radiator, had to notch it for the radiator lower outlet
Image

cut out a few pieces of that rubber belt, and made slits on the back side part way though so it would bend, used some adhesive to keep them in place, you can see part of the piece I used up above
Image

this is one of the two pieces I used up top to keep the radiator from rubbing on metal, I trimmed down the tabs that were here before
Image

made these tabs that mount the radiator up near the top from each side with the rubber corks, they are blue now
Image

had to make this a two parter
this is the bracket I made for the power center, it wasn't welded up all the way yet but this is it
Image
Image

this is how the power center mounts, its about as far over as it will go and still be able to open easily, it is bolted in now, you can see the holes in the bracket
Image

with that done moved on to the mounting bracket for the oil filter bracket, nothing fancy just a couple pieces of flat steel butt welded at 90* with a few holes drilled, and a view of the upper radiator mounts
Image
