xmember is finished and installed now
Image

mount pedestal welded on and painted with more of the jd black
Image

also cut the mount blocks off of the plate from the power by ace mounts and made new plates to weld them to that will sit it where I want it which places the mounts right above the mount point on the frame. will get a pic of that posted later on. should have that finished and get them installed tomorrow.

carb kit didn't make it today, I guess usps is having a bunch of issues with too many orders to from xmas backing up.. idk should be here tomorrow

Got my new lifters
Image

Just need to finish cleaning the carb up and it will be back together.
Image

Should have the intake on, distributor in carb on etc today now that i have my new lifters. Still need to check my clearance with my headers. We did a quick mockup and it looks like it will either clear or only be a couple mm off

Got some more misc stuff done over the weekend
Got the trans xmember bolted up had to redrill one hole that came out crooked
Finished my new motor mounts welded and painted
Image

When that was done went ahead and pulled the engine and tranny to see how that process was gonna work out. It didnt fight very hard. Got it out and painted, two coats down in the pic
Image

Started cleaning up the tranny, it was covered in grime and is taking a while even with some maf cleaner and degreaser. Im having a buddy bring his pressure washer over to get into the waffling better. Its not necessary for aluminum but im thinking about giving the tranny a couple coats of the hi-temp black as well. It needs a new gasket around the shifter tower looks like a lot of the crap on the case is coming from around it.

Image

Also got the carb reassembled with the new gaskets and internals. Finished with my intake manifold and cleand up the cai tubes and plenum some more. Not sure if i want to leave them bare aluminum, or paint them with the matching blue or the hitemp black. Any opinions?

Also test fitted my headers all is good except the tube that bends out on the driver side that the s10 steering shaft would go thru is about 1/4" from clearing. After a bit of brainstorming my dad and i decided the best way is gonna be to cut the pipe between the head and the first bend and add a piece of pipe around 1/2-3/4" long to space out the curve and give the needed clearance.
Other than that all is going pretty smoothly this week :D

General conscensus on both forums is leave it bare. And that is a lot less of a hassle and it wont chip or scratch. May try to polish the tubes up to make it look more gooder

Im waiting on my clutch and will be getting the engine and tranny put back in. Forgot to measure for the new driveline before i pulled them. Gotta get on that and get it down to six states driveline.

Too broke to buy parts right now with the move coming so not a lot happening
Got around to moving my firewall a bit. With the thicker mount plates i didnt have enough clearance for the bellhousing up top where the floorpan meets the firewall at the bottom. Made a cut at the center of the firewall 3/4" back and tapered it back 3" on each side until it was flush again. A crescent shaped cut. And carefully whacked the firewal back until it met the curve and welded it up. Will get a pic later but yo cant tell it was modified unless you were looking for it. Thanks to my dad on that. I lack the finesse to make it look a good as it does i just did the welding.
Will post a pic when i get off work.

Couple pics
Basically cut a relief behind the lip of the firewall and rolled it back to get more height and depth clearance out of it, it looks better than i can make a camera phone pic look but you get the idea

Image

Will look better painted just picked up another can of the blue for this and touchups, gained a ptetty good amount of clearance from it.
Image

Also got my tranny pressure washed up real well after a long soak ans multiple coats of degreaser. Will be giving that the hitemp black just cuz i feel like making it match its surroundings. No good reaaon just want to

Not living with my mom anymore so i have been stopping by to work on my truck after work.
Got my seats new rails made and got the seats installed
Image
They look wildly offset but the seats sit just right like this. They dont slide anymore but they are so big there would be no point anyway
Image

Got them in today

Had a couple hours to work today.
Made a patch for the 4wd shifter hole out of a piece of old tailgate skin
Image

Image

Also put the tranny and xmember back in. After cleaning and adding black rtv to the base of the shifter tower, it was clear it leaked before and im not havin that!

Taxes should be back soon and my buddy who works at a baxters auto parts is getting me his employee discount on my whole list of stuff left. Saving me a ton

Well most went smoothly. Had to elongate a hole on the trans xmember to bolt it up, clutch fits but the throwout bearing is loose on the shaft and isnt like the old one so getting the right one.. may need to reeducate my buddy cuz he got me a 70s pontiac tstat housing  changing that out

Question for some of you sbc guys, i went around and tightened my rocker arms gave the engine a little bit of a turn tightened again and again to be sure of even torque but no matter what i do i have a couple rocker arms that have a little bit of a wiggle while the rest are solid as a rock, moved pushrods around to see if maybe they were bent but no difference. Could it be something to do with the lifters or rocker arms?

Did you soak the lifters in oil before dropping them in? Hydraulic lifters will bleed off or if they don't have oil in them then they don't pump up. WARNING!!! You need to go through them again and make sure that while you tighten the nuts down feel the difference between a loose rocker and a snug lifter that just makes contact with the valve ( 0 lash ) and give a quarter turn. Also make sure you prime the engine (preferably while slowly turning the motor over 2 or 3 times. If you don't get those empty lifters filled quickly at start up it could shred the cam. That's bad, MMM'KAY.

Yup lifters were soaked, i made a oil pump primer out of the stock distributor so i will have the engine good and lubricated before i ever fire it up.
Will be dropping the engine in within the next day or two when i get the right throwout bearing. Basically everything else is ready to start coming together once i get the right bearing.
Going to strip the floor of the truck and roll out some bedliner in there and in the wheel wells cant wait to get on the road wont be long :ebiggrin

Got the right t/o bearing tstat housing and ujoint today, have the weekend off and so does my dad so lots happening this weekend we are hoping to...
*get the engine dropped in and mated up with the tranny
*get the intake manifold bolted down and carb bolted up
*modify the driver side header middle tube to clear the steering shaft already got the tubing piece i needed
*measure the new driveline length and get it to the shop
*work on getting the radiator mounts designed and installed.

Still a ton of work to do but i have the majority of the stuff i was missing so its pretty much down to the assembly.
