Hey all,
Had this for a few months and figured I should finally jump on here and introduce my '79 Luv.
Thanks to my job, I was able to purchase this car from the tv show Roadkill after a brief appearance on a Father's Day special episode where they pitted it against three other budget cars in various challenges. It lost them all, gloriously, and I decided I would take it home rather than have it sit in their storage facility.
It looks like it was someone else's nearly finished project that has seen a bit of neglect. But it's all there and pretty tidy as far as they come, so it's a good place to start. I believe it was a desert CA car given the metal condition and the sparse history I was able to get.
Stock engine, I've already added a Weber and Pertronix and it runs beautifully – when it runs. Still chasing some elec issues as the previous owner's wiring job was patchy at best. Mated to a four-speed which makes me think this was built from whatever parts were available at the time.
It's somewhere between a purple and root beer metallic that really pops in the sun. Couple scratches and dents and things which I can live with for the time being. The truck was originally Jasmine Yellow underneath, and still is in the engine bay (sigh).
Interior (aside from dash) is all new and gorgeous, so that's a huge win.
The plans are to get it running reliably first (obviously) then slowly make changes to make it a bit of a tribute to the 80s mini-truck scene.
Hoping to tidy up the engine bay as much as possible, repaint the bed inside, just give it some tlc to make it pop a bit more.
A vanity roll bar in the back is definitely necessary, but otherwise just small changes. New wing mirrors, get the wheels spaced properly and wrap in white-letter tires. I'm sure it'll snowball from here but thats part of the fun!
I'm also chasing a quad-light grille and an early model front bumper so if you have leads on any, please contact me!
