im not a huge fan of BLs. How you install them is unbolt the body and put big old spacers under the body mounts. Its alot harder than that sounds but thats the basic idea.

Body lift is fine, in moderation. 2 inches is ok, but 6 or 8 inches just looks idiotic.

I've seen one luv where you could see 3-5 inches of air *over* the frame and under the body. People who do that much body lift do need some boot/nads interaction, probably repeated applications.

i have a 3" BL on my nissan that was on the truck when i bought it. dont look all that bad just useless IMO. i helped "hide" the frame a bit with some nerf bars. the backend is the worst spot for me. instead of raising the bumper too they slapped a peice of dimond plate under the tailgate to fill the gap.

ive been thinking about takin the rear bumper off, adding a rollpan and frenching the licesen plate into the tailgate. then building a nice pipe bumper for it. but i also got a resse hitch back there so i dont know if it would look stupid or not.

couple pics of my nissan.

If you need lift for tall tires only to look pretty, or if there is limited aftermarket support for your truck, then a body lifts OK. If I keep my 4x4, I'm gonna body lift it. Well unless I hit the powerball tonight, then it'll get a 4-link and a pro rock 60, 10" of lift, and 49" Swamper Iroks!!!!!

I'v got a 3" bd on my Luv, in addition to a 1 1/2" suspension lift, so far the 3" bd has been great in that I have more room to stuff my 215x75R15's
I guess Im in favor of body lifts, but know more than 3", if you do any more than that it's just plain stupid, and not safe

My truck came with a BL already on it, but it really wasnt done right. There are some fabrication that needs to be done to make everything work right and safe. The angle of the steering colum changes and there has to be a plate or somthing installed between the the steering colum and the fire wall. When I first got my truck it was a MESS!! BIG TIME!! The floor board where the shifters go through has to be modified. The Radiator has to be moved down to be infront of the fan. Or you could use a electric fan. Some of the brake lines I have noticed where either moved or lengthened. But all in all I like the body lift. I can fit 235 75 R 15's under my truck....with a few front fender mods. I prefer a tall 14" tire myself. I now have 28X8.50 in Kumos that I am very, very impressed with. Deep lugs that can really throw some stuff and are rather quiet on the road. Body lift?? I believe its up to the owner who has the "want" for it.

At Pismo Beach I have seen some trucks with body lifts that shifted off roading leaving the cab to hit the bed on one corner and grow farther away on the other corner.

Now is that a good thing or a bad thing??? To me, that would be a rather bad thing if the cab shifted and hit the bed. It would have to be (this is my opinion) either its a crappy body lift, the bolts have either loosened up or they used a cheap grade of bolt. I have taken mine into some really terrible places lately and I havent had a bit of problem. Who ever did my BL did do somthing right I guess they gave up on it and didnt want to mess with the rest of the stuff.

I think that you should only put a 1-2 inch body lift max, but preferably 1 because that it lifts you up to fit larger tires but it doesnt raise your center of gravity much, like a suspension lift does.

Um, if you do a suspention lift your still going to up the center of gravity, putting a body lift does the same thing, If what your looking for is lift to clear bigger and WIDER tires then your able to ofset the effects of the higher center of gravity a bit.

Body lift only raises the mass of the body, suspension lift raises the entire mass of the truck minus the axle, spindles, wheels and tires. Both raise the center of gravity, but the body lift raises less mass, so for the same inches the center of gravity raises less.

With a truck like the LUV, you either have to bite the bullet and solid axle the front or combine body and suspension lift to get a compromise of lift that gets you high enough to clear much of a tire. With no options for bolt on suspension lift for the front, you do what you can basically.

That is a very good point, wider tires or less wheel backspacing ups stability and can completely negate the losses of lifting, no matter which way you get it there. Taller tires isn't really that hard, a 31x8 inch tire would not be tough to get under a luv, but 31x10.5 is much harder to fit and not have them rub when turning.

Yes, body lifts in moderation are ok, and they're not that hard to put in either, did mine by myself on an xtra cab S-10 in about 2-3 hours. cake man, pure cake :P i think it's a good alternative for better tire clearance if you don't have the skills or means to do a SAS

A body lift is GREAT for a luv 4x4 because you have no susp lift, so throw a 2-3 inch body lift crank the t bars and the truck will look so sick.....idc what people say body lifts are good for tire clearance, show, cheap lift, and it gives you clearance for when your muding as well so your from or rear dont touch the mud as fast as a stock truck would....just make sure YOU do it right lift the front and rear bumper and the radiator. so it wont look funy and you radiator can keep geting the air it needs. 8)
