I have a 79 4x4 and have drained the trans fluid.
On the forum I read that the fill plug is a 15/16 and half way up the trans on the passenger side. I opened both of the 15/16 plugs just below the trans shifter (front side & back side) and tried to pump oil in them but the oil just runs out. Can someone confirm the correct fill plug location?

Thanks Neal

Take a look at these pics. I am thinking the stock drain plug has been replaced with this plug thing?
I am I correct in this guess? Should there be a 15/16 plug where this bolt plug thing is at?

Thanks Neal

Ok it appears that this is the plug location and someone jacked up the threads and replaced it with a rubber plug thing.lol
Tomorrow I will see if I can tape it and get a real plug in it.

You do know that motor oil is used for these, not gear lube, right?

Yes I do.
I am changing to Synthetic oil as this way I have the same oil in all my cars. Only one oil to buy is a big plus to me.

The plug threads are so bad that I am going to just get a new rubber plug and call it done.

Off course now that I have that buttoned up I have a new leak...DANGIT!!!!
The brake master to booster seal has puked out all the rear brake oil.
