We took the 4X4 with us camping on Thanksgiving weekend. My kids drove the LUV the 200 miles round trip and we all thrashed on it all weekend. It ran great the whole time. My daughter was excited to drive it to h.s. on Monday all dirty. Ended up, she drove it all week like that. I will finally wash it in the morning.
Here's our camp. You can see my camper and Ford in the right of the pic.

Ok, I will jump in, thought I had posted this here before but guess I havent. I think this was one of the coolest 4x4 Luv's I have ever seen, tried to buy it till the guy told me he wanted $12K for it. 8O I was hoping 6 or 7 and he wasnt the guy who originally built it. This pic was from a show about 7 years before I seen it for sale and nothing had been changed on it when I looked at it when it was for sale.

Does anyone have any info on this Luv? Mainly wanting to know about the lift, axles, and tires. This is probably where I want mine to end up: toyota axles, chevy engine, chevy trans, chevy tc, and 40" rubber. Any help is much appreciated. thanks

Sorry, last I seen it was in the early 2000's. I bet it is still in the south Denver area, maybe 77 4x4 will come across it someday.

No problem. It's not like I can get all this stuff to work together by buying a kit or anything anyways. I have to get it home and running before I start looking into the extreme stuff though. I do already have the front toyota axle at least.

here is my 79, when I first brought it home, and pretty much how it sits now, I bought it w/o an engine, it now has one but I need to finish installing it. either that or I am going to put it onto my k5 chassis!

Below is a video of my recent rock crawl event with the Luv. The truck is work-in-progress so the specs are always changing. However, current specs are as following:

Titled as a '73 and is street legal
'78 Jeep Wagoneer frame cut and spliced to match Luv wheelbase
Dana 44 axles front and rear (Lincoln locked front and rear)
Chevy 4.3 tbi motor
Turbo 400 tranny bolted to Dana 20 transfer case
36" Super Swampers
Late model Chevy steering column
Bobbed bed for better departure angles.
Cut fenders to allow room for tires
Cherokee electric seats
On-board air
lots of other nick-nak mods

Here's a couple photos of my old '79 4X. My Dad bought it in Feb., 1979, just before the release of the Toyota 4x mini's. He outgrew it and gave it to me to use the summer before my senior year in HS.

This was mid-way through installing a 3” body lift, late summer 1983. I had already installed a ~2” torsion bar lift earlier that summer. The 10-15 Ground Hawgs were on the front to check fender clearance. Still needed major surgery to get them to fit.

Image

Here it is after the body lift/fender trim with the Ground Hawgs on 15x8 white spokes.

Image

Sold it summer of '84. It changed hands a couple times after I sold it. Last time I saw it in '86, the body lift blocks had pushed through the cab floor.

I've been watching the local classifieds recently in hopes of finding another one, hopefully a nice low-miles '79-'80 4wd in white.

just picked this up today,
I have always liked the LUV truck body style,
I'm coming over from the Toyota side.. 8O
couldnt pass up this one,! 8)
a few spec's:
registered as 77' LUV
231 Buick V-6 (California smog legal)
700-4 auto trans
model 20 t-case
D-30 front
LUV rear
4.10 gears
35" BFG's

runs great,!

It's sitting a little too tall for me,, but soon I will loose the 3" bodylift

it still needs a little tlc,, but pretty clean for $900.00
