OK. So I picked up a 4x4 transmission out of a Luv from pick and pull. The only way I could get the thing out of there was to remove the transfer case portion.

I went to put this thing back on and now I am confused. Please bear with me as this is my first luv truck and my current trans wont really shift nor stay in gear for the 4x4 shifter.

Now, I thought this was how it worked but please educate me.

Drivers side, up is 4L. Driver side back is 4H. Passenger back is 2H.

OK for the oddities...

The new trans when I put the tcase back on seems odd. Is it normal to have to go Drivers side up, then over and back to get to 2H? Meaning it is in gear for 4L and then I pull it over and back to try to get to 2H (which is another problem).

On to my other issue. My 2H is really a 2L. Obviously, i've done something wrong here. Is there a good write up somewhere on doing this? Anyone that has some time to explain things to me or help out here?

so... Now I am extra confused. Doing some more reading it appears to be...

Passenger and back - 2H
Driver and forward - 4H
Driver and Back - 4L

What i am currently experiencing...

Passenger and back - 2L
Driver and forward - 4L
Driver and back - 4H

I'll double-check that I have the shift forks into the rings... But how is this even possible? :?
